Not the only veteran cop shedding tears, Larry Bullard made his way across the courtroom Wednesday afternoon to the assembled family of Barbara Rippy.
Bullard, the retired officer who volunteered his time in 2007 to reopen the unsolved 35-year-old slayings of Rippy’s daughter and granddaughter, embraced Rippy in a frenzy of smiles and emotion.
“Sorry it took so long,” he told her.
“Finally.”
Jerry Nemnich, who turns 66 Monday, was convicted Wednesday on first-degree murder counts in the July 1975 killings of Linda Benson, 24, and her daughter, Kelley Ketchum, 5, both of whom were stabbed repeatedly in unit 211 of Chateau Apartments, 1300 N 21st. St.

Nemnich, who crossed the country as an over-the-road trucker for 15 years prior to his arrest in Mesa County in April 2009, had been named last year by Denver police as a potential suspect in the 1973 rape and murder of 20-year-old June Kowaloff in Denver.
While not mentioning a case by name, Hauztinger said Nemnich is still suspected in a rape and murder in another jurisdiction.
