In January, teenaged twins claimed they arrived home Jan. 13 from school and found their mother stabbed to death in her Conyers home.

On Friday, the girls were arrested and charged with killing her.

Jarmeca "Nikki" Whitehead, 34, was stabbed multiple times, police said. Days after the beautician was killed, police announced they were looking for "persons of interest" based on witness descriptions.

Her daughters, Jasmiyah and Tasmiyah are now believed to have killed the woman, Conyers police Chief Gene Wilson told the AJC.

"They're going to be tried as adults," Wilson said.

Nikki Whitehead's boyfriend of 10 years, Robert Head, told the AJC that he wasn't surprised by the girls' arrests. He also said it wasn't the twins' idea to kill their mother, but they they were coerced by a family member and possibly bribed.

"A grown-up had to help plan it," Head said Friday night. "They loved their mom. They got caught up in a bad situation."

Head said his girlfriend was studying fashion design, and had planned to travel to New York City for one of her classes. At times, the woman felt helpless and was manipulated by family members, Head said. He says money may have been the reason the girls were told to kill their mother.

Before she died, Jarmecca, who was known as Nikki, confided in her neighbor.

Angela Avery said, "The mother was kind of afraid that something like that might happen."

Avery did not know why. She said, "I can't explain why because the mother didn't do a lot of talking, but she did have that particular fear. Yes, she did."

Police arrested one of the girls at Tucker High School and the other at a relatives home.

Wilson said, "They did not appear to be surprised and they did not offer any apologies."

Police said conflicting statements and evidence pointed to the sisters.

Avery said the girls had recently moved back with their mother and boyfriend. She said they were back on a Saturday and on Wednesday, their mother was dead.

how terribly sad. and I wonder why she thought it might happen? how awful to be afraid of your own little girls.

how awful to stab your own mother to death :(

I'm really hoping that the boyfriend's allegations about other family instigating this are looked into thoroughly - though of course even if it's true that is no excuse for what these girls have done, and they still need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

JMO and all that.

From what I've read those girls sound like bad eggs. This should be an interesting case and trial to follow. It's pretty bad when the public defender says he 'has his work cut out for him'

Earlier today I heard on HNN that after a long and bitter custody fight the girls were ordered to live with their mother only a week before her murder. I hope LE is taking a close look at the fathers family.

Ok I thought i heard they were sent to live with their 80 yr old grandmother for over a year because they were difficult but she could no longer handle them either. She was afraid of them and deadbolted the door, so they were sent back to the mother, who was determined to make it work. But she also told a friend if anything happens to her it was her kids.

Just found this:
Tas and Jas had moved back home just eight days before their mother's death. They had been living with their elderly great-grandmother for about a year and a half following an incident in which they physically assaulted Whitehead, requiring police intervention, said Petrina Sims, owner of Simply Unique, a salon where Whitehead worked until her death

This is so sad. I wonder if one of the twins was known to have been the stronger of the two, the leader. Usually there is one who is more dominant with twins.

This is disgusting! Well, at least two more worthless humans are off the streets.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Nearly four years after Jarmecca “Nikki” Whitehead’s spinal cord was fatally severed at the climax of the fight, one of her twins has admitted her part in the killing.

Tasmiyah Whitehead, 20, pleaded guilty Thursday to voluntary manslaughter, falsification in government matters and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime in the death of her mother.
She was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Her identical twin sister, Jasmiyah Whitehead, goes to trial in March in connection with the killing and could face life in prison.

UPDATE:
While their fate is sealed, their case file is not. Through an open records request 11Alive obtained critical evidence that never made it to a courtroom: crime scene photos, interrogation tapes, surveillance video and, finally, the girls' taped confessions.

Oh crap, while reading, I mistakenly hit "unsubscribe" when I didn't want to from this story :( (Not the first time I've done this on the site)

Identical twin sisters, 21, jailed for 30 years for stabbing their mother and leaving her to die in the bathtub

Jasmiyah and Tasimyah Whitehead were 16 when they stabbed their mother, Jarmecca, 34, so violently that they severed her spinal cord

The twins turned on their mother after getting into an argument on January 13, 2010, at their home in Conyers, Georgia before school

They dragged her injured body to the bathtub and watched her die, before leaving her submerged and going to school
