Doreen Gaul 19 and James Sharp 15 were murdered in L.A. in 1969. Sometimes this unsolved murder is called the Scientology murders or possible victims of the Manson Family.

Doreen was striped and both were stabbed repeatedly about 50-60 times each and beaten in the face and head. Both of their eyes were slashed with the right eye cut out. Their bodies were so badly beaten that police first thought that they had been shot with a shotgun. There were motorcycle tire marks on the bodies. Both of the victims were members of the church of Scientology. They were murdered somewhere else and dumped where they were found.

Here is a link to some newspaper articles on the murders from back then.http://truthontatelabianca.com/forum/76-doreen-gaul-amp-james-sharp/

If you are interested in the Manson Family the site I liked is probably the best on the subject. I don't think they had anything to with this murder though. IMO the murderer was a part of the local motorcycle gang who had problems with the scientologists or a crazed member of their scientology circle of friends. The cutting of the eyes just seems to personal in my opinion for it to have been a random psychopath.

Here is a photo of a letter allegedly found by police in the room of Doreen Gaul, from someone claiming to be the ZODIAC.

The couple were referenced in this recent article concerning a recently identified murder victim, Reet J, because of perceived similarities in the murders..

Back then, police also investigated if Jane Doe 59's murder was linked to the November 23, 1969 killings of James Sharp, 15, and 19-year-old Doreen Gaul. The young Scientologists were found brutally stabbed and beaten in a downtown Los Angeles alley, one week after Jurvetson was discovered.

The wounds on Gaul, Sharpe and Jurvetson, looked like the work of a "fanatic," LAPD Det. Lt. Earl A. Deemer told the Los Angeles Times at the time.

Detectives also looked into whether Jurvetson's murder was linked to the slaying of 17-year-old Marina Habe, who was abducted outside her West Hollywood home January 1, 1969.

Habe's body was found at the bottom of a ravine off Mulholland Drive, less than a half mile from where Jurvetson was discovered. Habe, like Jurvetson, reportedly had multiple stab wounds to the neck

Doreen Gaul actually did have a Manson connection - member Bruce Davis was her ex-boyfriend.

Did Charles Manson Have 4 More Victims? 'There's an Answer There Somewhere,' Says LAPD Detective (with clip)

"...Manson and his followers were convicted of nine killings, many still wonder: Did the savagery end there?

Questions have persisted for decades about some suspicious area murders and whether their deaths were linked to the notorious clan. These unsolved mysteries persist almost 50 years later and two years after Manson’s death at age 83 and are explored in the latest episode of People Magazine Investigates. Titled “Who Killed Jane Doe #59?,” the episode airs Monday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. ET on Investigation Discovery. (An exclusive clip is shown above.)....

Back then, police also explored whether Jurvetson’s case was linked to the murder of 19-year-old Doreen Gaul. Gaul had been in L.A. six months when she and her friend James Sharp, 15, were found fatally stabbed in a downtown alley on Nov. 21. 1969...."

" LAPD Det. Lt. Earl A. Deemer wanted to explore any possible connection between the murders of Doreen and James and a Jane Doe slaying from several months before. The marked similarities in the three murders struck Deemer as more than a coincidence. He described the crimes to reporters: “All three victims were stabbed, and their wounds appeared to be the work of a ‘fanatic’. None of the three was slain where the bodies were found. The Jane Doe of the previous killing wore hippie-like attire which resembled that in which Miss Gaul had been seen and which is favored by many young females in the organization [Scientology].”

Did Charles Manson Have 4 More Victims? 'There's an Answer There Somewhere,' Says LAPD Detective
"Police interviewed Manson follower Bruce Davis a few years later in prison after they learned he lived in the same housing complex as Gaul, but he denied knowing the two and it’s unclear if he lived there at the same time as her. Later, another man confessed to the murders, claiming he and a partner killed the teens in a botched robbery, but the two were never charged and have since died. Evidence in the case was destroyed decades ago, leaving Gaul’s case in limbo.

Retired LAPD detective Cliff Shepard hopes that one day there will be firm answers in all four deaths. “It’s just being lucky,” he says. “There’s an answer there somewhere.”

James Sharp (lower two photos) age 15

Doreen Gaul and James Sharp’s bodies were found November 21 1969 at around 11:00 PM in an alley behind the residence at 1138 South Magnolia, Los Angeles. They had been placed there after death. Doreen was nude except for a necklace that newspaper articles described as “Indian beads”. James was fully clothed except for shoes. James had an ID bracelet on his wrist with his name, saying he was a member of the Church of Scientology which is why they were identified so quickly.

Both had been stabbed numerous times with a knife blade that measured ½” to 1” in width and 4” in length. There were also patterned marks on their bodies, they were thought to have been whipped by a chain. Semen was found on and in Doreen’s body. Each of their right eyes had been slashed. These were very gruesome murders.

Doreen Gaul, 19 years-old, was from Albany NY. She had been in California for about six months prior to her death. She was the oldest of four children. Before learning about Scientology, she had gone to parochial school in Albany, graduating in 1968 and was said to be a devout Roman Catholic. Doreen’s father said she had been planning on coming home as she had become disenchanted with Scientology.

James Sharp, 15 years-old, came from an upper-class family who lived in the suburb of Crestwood outside of St. Louis MO. His father, a prosperous salesman, said that James was very, very intelligent and he had given James permission in June 1969 to travel to California to study Scientology.

Early on the murders were branded the Scientology Murders much to the church’s dismay...
