Welcome locals! We have a lot of new members who live in Oregon and specifically in the Portland area. :woohoo: Your input is invaluable!

Please remember that Websleuths is not home to rumors you may have heard in the area. As a local, we need to back up any facts we've learned with a link.

VERIFIED locals have more freedom to post things they have heard in the area. This does require an email to Tricia, the owner of Websleuths. She will ask you questions about who you are and why you want to post information that is usually not allowed on Websleuths. This would mainly be for those who are in a profession so they can be added to our Professional Poster list or be a friend of Kyron's family. If you would like to discuss having more freedom with your information as a verified local or professional poster, please email her: tgrif@xmission.com

Most locals do not need to be verified because they are merely explaining the area, or they might have a child that attends Skyline and can explain what they've observed at the school. These posts are allowed and welcomed.

I'll leave this thread open for locals and those who might want to be verified in case anyone has questions for the mods.

Thanks again everyone for being here! :grouphug:

Bumping up
Thanks Kimster, No expertise here except I do work for a contractor in Beaverton and sell CCTV systems. We have done many schools, newer ones.

I also wanted to say how valuable locals can be when sleuthing a case. They give such an accurate sense for the area, allowing the sleuther to almost put himself there. I almost know Florida by now and have never spent a day there. ;}

Can any locals tell us about the island they keep searching???
Is anything on it???
oR IS IT JUST WOODS?

Not local, but I Googled.

The island is inhabited.

Sauvie Island, in the U.S. state of [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon"]Oregon[/ame], originally Wapato Island or Wappatoo Island, is the largest [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Island"]island[/ame] along the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbia_River"]Columbia River[/ame], at 26,000 acres (105 km²). It lies approximately ten miles northwest of downtown Portland, between the Columbia River to the east, the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multnomah_Channel"]Multnomah Channel[/ame] to the west, and the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willamette_River"]Willamette River[/ame] to the south. Much of the interior comprises water; Sturgeon Lake, in the north central part of the island, is the most prominent water feature. The land area is 84.82 km² (32.75 sq mi, or 20,959 [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acre"]acres[/ame]). Most of the island is in Multnomah County, but the northern third belongs to Columbia County. The [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauvie_Island_Bridge"]Sauvie Island Bridge[/ame] provides access across the Multnomah Channel from U.S. Route 30.
The island is predominantly farmland and wildlife refuge. There were 1,078 year-round residents at the 2000 census.

There is an industrial zone and small grocery store in the southeast corner, near the bridge.

Actually, I took a trip out there today and took a few pictures, but I don't know how to post them on WS. If someone could help me, I will post them.

I put them in a photobucket account for you all to see.
The island is mostly farmland with lots of neat and tidy houses. The roads are narrow and curvy with no shoulder to stop or park on. Hard to get pictures. It is very lush and green with lots of tall grass along the sides of the road. Lots of places a little body could be dumped.

I did not see any searchers, but saw a couple Multnomah County Sheriff pickups drive by. I stopped at a farmer's market and the clerks said they had seen lots of searching, but did not seem to want to discuss the case. They had flyers next to the cash register. Next time I will leave my 11 year old behind and go by myself so I can take my time. I will go back again later and get some more photos.

I noted in the pics of the island there was a bridge. I hope there are camera's on that bridge and that those cameras were working properly on June 4th. They would be of much help to the police in this case.

I looked and I couldn't find any reference of cameras on or near the Sauvie Island bridge. It would be nice if any of the locals had a camera. I wonder why they didn't ask for surveillance camera pictures from Sauvie Island.

I don't think there are any.. someone searched here and found a link to a camera that I personally know isn't running anymore, at Cistus Nursery (on the opposite side of the island from the search).

There's no traffic camera on the bridge.

Gwenabob,

I clicked on the water level one as soon as I saw the pics. I had the same though as you. God I wish they would find him...... maybe another reading? I won't get a pure image now, because i know so much about the case and area.

Is it just me or.....do you find the locals are very quiet?

I am very surprised at the lack of information anyone is giving here>

The area where this has all happened is one of the less populated areas of Portland. Perhaps the least populated, actually! So most people from Portland wouldn't have anything to do with Skyline and would not have any interaction with searchers. 1300 searchers in Portland = big deal. The fact that they are all east of 26, north of town, and on Sauvie Island = relatively few Portlanders would even see them.

I totally agree that the silence on the part of the Skyline community is incredible - almost unheard of. The only person who broke ranks was the classmate (along with his grandmother), and he only did one interview. It makes you wonder.

satellites are taking pictures from space all of the time. They are so good that they can read the manufacturer's name on a water ski if you are water skiing.

I wonder if there are any satellite images from that day?

We have some very diligent locals here.

Although I don't live in the Portland area, I have family who lives off of Corn Pass and not that far from Skyline. They have not seen any activity since most of the search teams were called in over a week ago. My son took a trip to Sauvie Island a few days ago and didn't see anything. The island is HUGE, BTW. He did mention that Kyron fliers are all over the place and everyone is upset that he hasn't been found.

I, too, am really surprised at the quiet. But it's like the elephant in the room. Every conversation is lower key, quiet comments about how sad it all is, frustration that we don't know anything. This is in all 4 quadrants of town, from what I've seen. It's hit us all hard. Can't even imagine what close friends and family members are feeling.

Hi, all; Clackamas County lurker here. I'm also surprised at the tight control of information that seems to be going on. Kyron's case is most definitely at the top of mind for many, many people here--flyers at my grocery store, flyers out at Multnomah Falls, constant conversation about the case--but very little actual new information.

I hope very much that it simply means that LE is doing things right and building a solid case.
