I think this story could serve as a lesson for some people before they embark on a life of crime.
This guy in England stole a van and after doing whatever he did with it he attempted to torch it but set himself on fire as well, getting badly burnt. He claimed kidnappers did it and applied for financial compensation as a crime victim but got 4 years instead.

Electrician Stephen Thornley 29, had claimed he had been doused with petrol and set alight by masked thugs who had abducted him in near to his home in Marple in July 2008.
Thornley suffered horrific 40 per cent burns to his body and legs after being engulfed in a fireball, and later made a £30,000 claim to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, alleging he had been an innocent victim of crime.
Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court was told, however, that although police at first believed they were dealing with a case of attempted murder, it quickly became apparent to officers that the story was a pack of lies.
