"BRACEBRIDGE, ONT. - A veteran police officer had difficulty holding back his emotions on the witness stand Tuesday as he recounted the horror of discovering the putrefied body parts of a missing woman.

Now on trial for first-degree murder and indignity to a body is Ian Borbely, 36, of Orillia, Ont. The body parts of his former partner, Samantha Collins, 29, were found hidden on a cottage property on July 5, 2010 — almost three years after she died"

"BRACEBRIDGE - Anger, hatred, power and control were all present in the mind of Ian Borbely after he killed and dismembered his former mate, then kept her in a “crypt” where he hoped she would never be found, a Crown told a jury yesterday.

Borbely is on trial for murder and indignity to the body of former Toronto woman Samantha Collins, 29, who was found packed in a wooden crate"

That man is pure evil! This crime is very disturbing. I have no good words about my ex but I would never consider killing him and leaving my child without both parents.

""Samantha Collins was a free spirit; she lived a dangerous lifestyle," said Paul Cooper in his closing arguments to the jury.

It was his last chance to try to fight for the freedom of his client, who is on trial for murder and indignity to a body.

"Given her dangerous lifestyle is it not likely for her to get into a car with a stranger, never to return?" suggested Cooper, who insisted she lived a "wild life."

Samantha may have lived a dangerous lifestyle according to some people but she was a human being who was loved. Deserved so much better than this.

Eight OPP officers are being commended for their work in a complex investigation into the March 2007 death and dismemberment of Bracebridge resident Samantha Collins.

“With no fingerprints, no DNA and an overwhelming amount of circumstantial evidence, this team assembled a case that led to a second-degree murder conviction six years to the day that Samantha Collins went missing,” Det.-Const. Dave Allen, lead investigator in the case, said Monday.

In March 2013, Ian Borbely, of Orillia, was convicted of second-degree murder and indignity to human remains. He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole until 2030.
