Roseburg, OR teacher arrested on child *advertiser censored* charges

"A Fullerton IV Elementary School teacher has been arrested for allegedly having more than 500 files of child *advertiser censored* on his home computer, police said this morning.

Steven Kenneth Derlacki, 28, was arrested Sunday at his Roseburg home, said Sgt. Aaron Dunbar, spokesman for the Roseburg Police Department.

Dunbar said police received information Sunday afternoon that Derlacki may have child pornographic images on his computer...."

and

"...As of this morning, Derlacki was being held at the Douglas County Jail on $9.5 million bail...."

That's a heck of a bail amount. I wonder what else has been found? I noticed that the stock comment concerning "no local child has been harmed" is trotted out for this article. Like this is somehow a little more palatable and the good people of Roseburg can rest easier tonight knowing that none of the local kids were involved. That comment always sets me on edge. I guess it's easier to stomach if the children in the nasty *advertiser censored* are from a third world country. A child is a child is a human being. Hundreds, if not thousands, of children suffered for this creep's prurient lust.

I wonder why his bail is so high. Not that I mind :furious:

In doing a little sleuthing, I've found some recent child *advertiser censored* arrests in Oregon which have carried $100-300,000 bail. Michael Marceau and Lisa Ford of Aloha each had their bail set at $4 million but they were producing child *advertiser censored* with a 6 year old girl and an extremely physically disabled teen. They also confessed to their crimes.

But nothing like $9.5 million. I think we'll hear that there's more to this story. I've checked this guys' connections across Oregon and he's got some fine seeming family members in respected positions. I see a single older teen relative but no children.

WOW. I will definitely be checking for updates on this story.

Wouldn't that be great if this arrest is the tip of shutting down a big child *advertiser censored* ring?

I guess Steve kept a blog. He sounds like a real driven young man; student teaching, Boys and Girls Club:

http://mrluckysteve.blogspot.com/2005_08_09_archive.html

Mr. Lucky, that's real cute. From Summer 2005 (I would assume just following college):

"For the past two weeks I have been working a job here in Eugene on campus, and one in Corvallis at the Boys and Girls Club Summer Day Camp. So I have had some mornings where I need to leave here by 6am to get to work in Corvallis on time, crazy I know but it is money....

Well that is all for now, when I figure out how to post pics I will of some camping..."

and

"Some people may wonder about my blogs name. When I was doing a practicum in Junction City my kinders couldn't say my last name, Derlacki, so some called me Mr. Lucky. This name caught on and even parents and staff called me Mr. Lucky...."

and

"On Wednesday, I get to meet all 18 of my 3rd graders on the first day of school. I am excited because it will be fun to get to know my class and to get back into the swing of things...."

Also a link to this blog???

http://juicyfruiter.blogspot.com/

Does anyone know the symbolism of this? It's an odd blog and one where the blogger contacted Derlacki and asked him to check this blog. Juicy Fruit is a "brand" of pot but I'm not so sure that's what's being talked about here.

My take on reading this is that LE has their work cut out for them. It sounds as if this guy has had contact with hundreds of kids through his student teaching, work at children's clubs, and his official teaching position. YIKES!! I hope Oregon parents are paying attention and thinking back on whether their little ones crossed paths with "Mr. Lucky".

Juicy Fruit is also a brand of chewing gum.

Yes, I'm aware of that, it just seems odd that the word "Juicy Fruit" seems to be quite central to this blog. Might be nothing at all. However the Juicy Fruit guy contacted Derlacki and provided a link to his blog.

Derlacki's blog seems to be strictly about a young student teacher and his daily experiences. I just found it strange that a man from 3000 miles away would contact him and invite him to his blog. The blogger tells Derlacki that he's looked over his blog and found it "inquisitive" and then says "you might enjoy my blog". I see nothing in the Juicy Fruit blog about teaching.

Hmmm 3 hours from Portland, I wonder what he was doing the morning kyron went missing.

I'd be surprised, given all the recent developments, Beyond Belief. First of all, Mr. Lucky was probably teaching his class in Roseburg. The article I linked to at the top says that he's been teaching 2nd grade and school was still in session when Kyron disappeared. Secondly, I haven't seen any connections to Portland--mainly Corvallis, Eugene, and Bend. All those towns would be considered Central Oregon whereas Portland actually is on the WA border.

Anything is possible, though, and I'm very curious as to why this bail is so darned high. There's got to be something other than possession of child *advertiser censored*.

My heart goes out to his young students and their parents right now. They must be going through total hell as they wait to hear just what this guy has done.

Just a comment, aside from the fact the bail has to be high for some other reason as we all mentioned.

This guy makes me ill- he is a real peice of garbage and I hope they lock his azz up for a long time. Makes me want to vomit. That's it.

Goz

It's the double life that drives me nuts. The blog with the posts talking about the excitement of setting up a classroom. That seems so laudable and then this.....

Derlacki set back all the work done to get male teachers into the primary grades. So many are gifted and wonderful and deserve our respect. I really feel for any other male teachers in the elementary schools of Roseburg. I can't imagine how uncomfortable they feel this morning.

So often people forget that female teachers can be abusers too.

I found a comment on the above linked blog about a roommate moving out to get married. I hope he didn't have children visiting at the house.

This teacher's "bulletin board" shows that Derlacki has long been discussing the downloading of files. He even attempts to teach others how to do it. And yes, I realize that all teachers must do this but I wonder just what kind of non-educational files Derlacki might have been downloading. I refuse to believe that this man just woke up one morning and developed an interest in child *advertiser censored*. I would be willing to bet that his entire life was geared toward one goal--surrounding himself with young children.

Check June 11, 2007

Being that I've seen no mention of a spouse, partner, or roommate, I wonder who turned him in. His name might have been turned over in the case of a bust anywhere in the world. That's how LEO Chris Bowersox of Bakersfield bit the dust.

He is still under contract to come back and teach in the fall. What??? Sorry but any teacher caught with child *advertiser censored* on their computer should be terminated immediately.

Yes, he is still under contract and the school district must be careful how they word their statements due to the fact that Derlacki has not been convicted. That could have bearing on his trial and on his resignation or termination.

Suffice it to say, Mr. Lucky's not going to be teaching for a good long while, IMO.

I wonder why the courts don't set the bail this high on the scum who actually do harm to a child? I mean the ones we read about every day here at websleuths--the ones who torture, beat, sexually molest infants and children. Of course, what this individual was doing does harm children, of course , but I mean the offenders who aren't in cyberspace. jmo

I was just looking back at Derlacki's blog and checking the other blog which invited him over, the Juicy Fruit one. Does it strike anyone as odd that the JF blog has had over 39,000 hits on just the profile...all when the guy only posted about 10 posts from 2005-2008. It also has a link for file-sharing.

"Not much about me, just I am a park ranger for a local park, I love my job, but I love juicy fruit even more!"

And a link to this guy's "other blog" with some clips of comments:

http://superfanblogger.blogspot.com/2009/03/test-post-5.html#comments

"I happened upon your Juicy Fruiter blog, and wish it were up to date. I've never read a blog before, and am anxious to read through all of your posts. Test phase is over, man. Time to share!!"

"I have something about sharing, I have to find it later. Share your burdens and your joy. Its hard to go through life alone."

Some unusual comments for a park ranger who rarely posts.

Odd.
