Missing Boy's Father Accuses Estranged Wife of Starting Affair, Attempting to Snatch Their Toddler, after Kyron Vanished

Kaine Horman charges that Terri Horman began a sexual relationship with a childhood friend of his during the investigation of Kyron's disappearance, and attempted to kidnap their 20-month-old daughter, Kiara, reports "Early Show" national correspondent Hattie Kauffman.

"Even if authorities suspect but can't prove her involvement in Kyron's disappearance," points out retired Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Capt. Bruce McCain, "They could arrest her for a separate crime."

In records released Monday, Terri Horman was asked to appear in court in connection with claims she violated a restraining order filed by Kaine Horman last month.

The order stated that police gave Kaine Horman "probable cause to believe" his wife tried to hire someone to kill him and was involved in Kyron's disappearance.

No hearing has been set.

Missing Oregon boy’s parents renew plea to stepmom
Tuesday, July 13, 2010 | 12:30 a.m.

Kyron Horman's father, mother and stepfather said in an e-mail to news organizations late Monday that they believe Terri Moulton Horman has not resumed speaking to law enforcement. The statement was primarily written by Desiree Young, the boy's biological mother.

They were responding to a statement from Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton, who said last week that Terri Moulton Horman, Kyron's stepmother, is cooperating with the investigation. Investigators haven't named her as a suspect or a person of interest.

"We believe that the sheriff's statement could have been misinterpreted and possibly reflects Terri's cooperation to participate in prior weeks during the investigation," according to the family's statement.

Gym owner glad he warned police about Terri Horman

On Tuesday, gym owner Bob Briede told KGW he was glad he called police.

"Her behavior was definitely suspicious and I felt that it justified making a phone call to the authorities," said Briede, who owns Xtreme Edge Gym in Beaverton.

"Obviously with one child going missing and a parent acting strange...we felt that somebody needed to know about that in case there was something there, you know," said Briede. "I sure wouldn't want two children to go missing."

"I definitely feel relieved," said Briede. "I couldn't have gone home that night and gone toThe way everything rolled out, it obviously was the good thing to do."

A friend of a man accused of having an affair with Kyron Horman's stepmother said he may have gotten too close to the case, but never had an intimate relationship with Terri Horman.

Becky Owens, a friend of Cook's, said he fully cooperated with police and told officers they would find texts messages from Terri Horman and naked pictures of her in his cell phone.

Owens said the court documents are wrong and Cook never had sex with Terri Horman.

"Once he came to his senses and realized this was a really bad decision, he cut it off with Terri. He said, 'You know, I can’t do this. Kaine’s my friend,'" Owens said. "We got involved because we wanted to help our friend find Kyron and, unfortunately, it’s blown up into somewhat of a soap opera."

No one was home when a FOX 12 reporter knocked on Cook's door.

Terri Horman was banned from the club, Briede said.
