Dolphin Jumps Out of Tank

Oh my goodness do you think the dolphin is okay?

OMG how horrible....poor dolphin, it should never have been in that tank to begin with....it should be in the wild where it belongs!!! It was like he had enough and wanted out so bad

God bless you Justice77.

You are SO right. I haven't seen the video because I can't bear to watch it. I hope the dolphin is OK. They are so wonderful and very intelligent. It is a crime against nature how we treat these precious beings.

Hideshi Teruya, who manages the dolphin section at the park, said the it suffered minor scratches and bruises on its head and fin, but had a healthy appetite for mackerel and squid after it was returned to the tank.
He said: 'It was playing around and jumped out by accident from the momentum.'
Kuru, which means 'black' in the local dialect, was captured six years ago in the seas around Okinawa.
Mr Teruya denied the captivity was cruel and said the tank was not overcrowded and followed aquarium guidelines.
But Mr O'Barry said the guidelines were inadequate and that dolphins were used to roaming for many miles a day, not swimming in a circle and doing flips at shows.

OMG! It was like the poor thing was trying to commit suicide!

ITA-She should have never been in that concrete cell to begin with. She was taken from the wild. It's beyond disgusting.

There is a documentary called 'The Cove' that details what Japan does to dolphins. They herd them together into a cove and kill them. The most attractive ones are selected for theme parks. The rest are slaughtered for their meat. Dolphin meat is full of mercury and is not suitable for human consumption. Most Japanese people don't even know they're eating tainted meat. My local library had the documentary on DVD so if anyone wants to watch it, it may be at your library. A PSA was put out by celebrities regarding 'The Cove' ...they show a very small portion of what happens to these poor dolphins at the 1:07 mark . The water is literally red from all the blood.

Orcas are not immune to their cruelty. They herd them into a cove and take them to theme parks. It's heartbreaking, they are in great distress and most of them die shortly after they're taken from the sea:

Japan isn't the only one committing horrible atrocities. WARNING---This video is EXTREMELY GRAPHIC and DISTURBING.

His dolphin friends were all gathered right there watching through the wall, they were so concerned for their friend..dolphins are so very smart.

I read an article where scientists were studying a pod of Orcas (which are in the dolphin family). One was sick/dying and headed for very shallow water. His entire pod stayed with him for three days risking their own lives until he died.

They stayed with an Orca in trouble at Sea World too, one even tried to help:

OMG Jon, I'm going to be sick to my stomach, I can't even click on your video. HORRIBLE and DISGUSTING!!

I know what you mean. I hesitated to post the videos because they are so horrific but maybe as more people know their story, it will stop...perhaps wishful thinking on my part. Anyway, someone posted about how intelligent they are. It's amazing how they're able to adapt to different locations and hunt for food together. The first video is an example of their hunting skills. The second video is just for giggles.

Dolphins are my favorite creatures on the planet. My heart sank when I saw him make the jump out. Seeing his tank mates come to attempt to aid him made it all the worse. These are truly majestic creatures. I wish we would cease in keeping them caged.

Jon, don't get me wrong I have nothing against you posting that and I agree anything that raises awareness is a good thing.

:( Made me tear up watching the other dolphins gathering at the wall, watching. I think it is cruel to enclose them like that and turn them into entertainment pieces. :(

I appeared from the video the staff was accustomed to the dolphin jumping out of the tank and not surprized. No one seemed stressed or moving faster ,just very efficient.

Awww, poor dolphin. Those videos are just horrible (most anyway) :(

I got that impression too.

I think this is total BS:

"Hideshi Teruya, who manages the dolphin section at the park, said the it suffered minor scratches and bruises on its head and fin, but had a healthy appetite for mackerel and squid after it was returned to the tank.
He said: 'It was playing around and jumped out by accident from the momentum.''

Perhaps I'm being too sensitive but he could have referred to her by name or 'the dolphin'. Instead, she's just an 'it' that lines his pocket full of money along with her fellow dolphin friends/family. I don't know if they captured them all from one pod at the same time or broke up pods for the show.

IMO

Those videos hurt my heart. I swam with dolphins once, it was the most amazing experience I've ever had.
