45-Year-Old Woman Reported Missing

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office are looking for a woman who hasn't been heard from in two weeks.

Friends and family last heard from Brittany Jeniveve Tavar, 45, around noon July 6.

She is described as a white female, 5-feet, 7-inches tall, 120 pounds with green eyes and blonde hair. A 2004 dark blue Toyota Rav4 also is missing from her home, which is in the 100 block of South Beach Drive in the North Beach area.

A close friend said her disappearance is unusual since she has numerous pets to care for.

Tavar may be with a 26-year old male, possibly named Joe.

Anyone with information about either person should contact detectives George Harrigan or Charles Brantley of the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office at (904) 824-8304.

This article shows a picture of "Joe."

In an internet search, I saw that her real estate license was recently renewed.

This lady lives on the barrier island where I live, only a few short miles north. I think the name of her small community/development might be North Beach.

Leaving the pets at home unattended for over a week is not a good sign.

A 26-year old transient is being sought nationwide as a person of interest in connection with the disappearance of a 45-year old St. Johns County woman earlier this month. An arrest warrant has been issued for the subject, identified as Joseph Dean Roberts, 26, no address on a charge of grand theft auto. He is also a person of interest into the disappearance of 45-year old Brittany Jeniveve Tavar. She was last heard from at 12 p.m. on July 6 by a close friend.

The investigation has revealed that one of the victim’s dogs was located in Hopkins, South Carolina on July 10 at 4 p.m. A witness spotted the dog chasing a vehicle and took it to a local Veterinarian. A micro chip was scanned that identified the victim as the dog’s owner. The following day, a police officer at the Evanston Police Department in Wyoming, conducted a traffic stop on the victim’s vehicle. At the time, she had not been reported missing and the suspect, who was driving, was given a verbal warning for excessive speed. The victim was not in the vehicle at that time.

A Nationwide alert has been issued for the suspect and the victim as the investigation continues. In addition, the victim’s family has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Roberts.

"We don't have any concrete information or evidence or eyewitness accounts that state something has happened to this individual, but at this point in time, given the circumstances, a reasonable person would have their awareness level raised, and ours certainly is at this point in time," Mulligan said.

"We don't know what his involvement is in this case, but we do know that he was seen, obviously, with her vehicle, her not in the vehicle, and he was the last person seen around her, so he's an individual we want to talk to," Mulligan said.

Police said that people close to Tavar said Roberts had been living with her two weeks prior to the date of her disappearance, and said Tavar met Roberts at a bookstore.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- The second dog has been recovered as police across the country continue searching for a missing woman and the man they believe took her.

Brittany Jeniveve Tavar was reported missing from her home near Vilano Beach July 16, but was last seen July 6.

She has two dogs, one of which was found in Hopkins, South Carolina on July 10.

Today, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, the other dog, Bichon Frise, was reported found, also in Hopkins.

The people who found the dog said they found the dog on a roadway and were holding onto it for safe keeping.

When they learned about the other dog found nearby and its connection to a missing person, they took the dog to a vet, who scanned the dog's microchip and found it too belongs to Tavar.

Tavar's sister, Patricia Bellamah, said Tavar was supposed to go to court to get an injunction against a neighbor following a domestic violence dispute. But she never made it.

"We don't have any doubt that this is the result of foul play," Bellamah said, "(She) is not the kind of person that would spontaneously disappear. She had a court hearing the next day that was very important to her. She's normally in phone contact with friends on a daily basis. Her cell phone has been turned off. She's missed meetings with friends and didn't call them. This is not her behavior."

A routine search of a nearby retention pond did not reveal any new clues. The US Marshals are involved in the search in addition to police in other states.

The reason we want this investigation to go on is because we want to believe (Tavar) will be found. So I desperately want to believe she will be found. But ... what I think is highly improbable is that somehow (she) voluntarily took off. That I discount completely. That's not a possibility," Bellamah said

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Brittany Tavar is athletic, artistic, and creative - and not necessarily a candidate for running off, her sister said today.

Patricia Bellamah, Tavar's sister, said a friend of Tavar called the family to let them know she had not heard from Tavar, 45, in days and that Tavar had "taken a young boarder into her home."

She had only known him for a couple of weeks, the friend said. "The family did not know a thing about him."

Bellamah said her sister's cell phone has been turned off and her ATM card has not been used since she disappeared.

Thanks Summer. I've added it to my timeline post above.

So what exactly do we have here? He has money obviously.
Do we know anything about this guy, like where hes from, etc.

Is it o.k. to set up a discussion thread over on the "Missing/Located" forum? Is that proper protocol?

Brittany Tavar, 45, has not been seen since July 6, 2010. She had taken in a boarder a couple of weeks before her disappearance. The boarder was seen driving in her vehicle in Wyoming several days after her disappearance and has since been named a POI in her disappearance. Her 2 dogs where found wandering around in South Carolina.

Thanks so much for posting this. I hope she is found alive. But the more time passes the more unlikely that is. Looks like she trusted the wrong person. Cant believe they had him and didnt even know she was missing yet.. Prayers for her and her family.

Authorities in St. Johns County said they have identified a person of interest in the disappearance of a woman.

Brittany Tavar has been missing for 13 days from her Ponte Vedra home, and the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office has labeled Joseph Roberts, 26, as a person of interest.

Tavar, who was last heard from two weeks ago, had a puppy named Kuebear who rarely strayed away from her. The dog was recently found abandoned in Hopkins, S.C., according to police.
