Police investigating the disappearance of Oregon second-grader Kyron Hormanwant to talk to a friend of Kyron's stepmother about the case, but she is apparently refusing to cooperate.

A statement released overnight by the little boy's father and biological mother focuses on DeDe Spicher, a close friend of Horman's estranged wife, Terri Horman, who is under intense scrutiny by police and the community.

Kyron Horman Update: DeDe Spicher Wasn’t Cooperative With Us Either

Last night’s announcement (PDF) from the parents of Kyron Horman confirmed our suspicion that DeDe Spicher lied about her identity when we visited her house earlier this month.

On June 30, four days after Kaine Horman left home with his daughter Kiara, several cars were seen driving away from the house where Terri Horman remained living alone.

One of those cars belonged to Terri Horman’s parents. Another belonged to Spicher.

Curious if they had any insight into the case, we knocked on the door of her condo in Tualatin several days later. The woman who answered the door was the same person shown in the photo and identified as Spicher in the press release from Kyron’s parents.

But the woman at the door told us DeDe Spicher wasn’t home. She identified herself only as a “friend” who was in town “to help.”

She's the surprise new figure in the Kyron Horman case, and now DeDe Spicher has not just grabbed the attention of the missing 7-year-old's parents – she's also come under police scrutiny.

Investigators questioned the 43-year-old Tualatin, Ore., resident and searched her condominium last week. She has attracted attention because of her alleged activities on June 4, the day the second grader disappeared.

Deputies: 'Significant' progress being made in Kyron search

ultnomah County Sheriff's deputies said Friday they continued to make "significant" progress in the search for 7-year-old Kyron Horman, getting tips from across the country and even other nations.

County investigators answered several question via email Friday.

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Response to questions submitted by media regarding Kyron Horman Case. - 07/23/10

Sheriff Daniel Staton and Multnomah County Multnomah County Sheriff's Office want to thank the media representatives that submitted question regarding the Kyron Horman investigation. There were numerous questions that could not be answered based upon this being an ongoing investigation. Multnomah County Sheriff's Office has a responsibility for maintaining the integrity of this on-going investigation and is why questions requesting specific details of the investigation were not answered.

Due to the length of the "questions and answers" document, it has been included with an attachment.

The next press conference is scheduled for Tuesday July 27, 2010 at the Multnomah County Sheriff's Training Facility located at 2955 NE 172nd Place, Portland, Oregon, 97230. It will begin at 2 p.m.

Chief Deputy Tim Moore and Captain Monte Reiser will be conducting the press conference. The purpose of this press conference will be to provide an update of the case and respond to questions that were submitted by the media.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office would like to ask the public to only use the tip line for providing useful information and not for other purposes i.e. providing opinions or comments that would not benefit investigators.

heriff's deputies said they've made "significant progress" and have developed 3,300 leads in the investigation into Kyron Horman's disappearance.

On Friday, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office answered more than two dozen questions submitted by reporters. The questions touched on several parts of the case, from Kyron's stepmother to collecting evidence to psychics.

In the release, sheriff's spokeswoman Lt. Mary Lindstrand said, "There were numerous questions that could not be answered based upon this being an ongoing investigation."

But deputies said they "Continue to make significant progress," but could not provide details.

Sources detail Terri’s timeline day Kyron disappeared

According to multiple sources, Terri Moulton Horman says she left Skyline School at 8:45 in the morning without Kyron the day he disappeared and that between 8:45 a.m. and 10:10 a.m. she ran errands at local grocery stores and can prove it.

Between 10:10 in the morning and 11:39, Terri said she drove her daughter Kiara around on rural roads in the family’s white truck because Kiara had an earache. She said she was trying to soothe the toddler with the motion of the vehicle.

At 11:39 a.m., Terri checked in at a 24-hour Fitness in Beaverton on Waterhouse Avenue and worked out for about an hour until 12:40 p.m.

By 1:21, Terri said she'd traveled home - a distance of nearly 11 miles - and was posting photos on Facebook she'd taken that morning of Kyron standing with his science project and of his friend, Kurtis, standing with his.

Sources said she also e-mailed the teacher to find out when she could come pick up the project as she had not taken it home.

Spicher reportedly left where she was working at 11:15 a.m. on June 4 and returned around 1 p.m.

The person who owns the house where Spicher lives, who is cooperating with investigators, told investigators she called Spicher on her cell phone but she didn't answer, the source told KGW. A person who was working with Spicher, who is also cooperating with investigators, told them of trying to unsuccessfully find Spicher. Both people have told investigators they have no idea where Spicher was during that period of time.<snipped>
