Pentagon workers tied to child *advertiser censored*
Security agencies were left at risk, investigators say

"Federal investigators have identified several dozen Pentagon officials and contractors with high-level security clearances who allegedly purchased and downloaded child *advertiser censored*, including an undisclosed number who used their government computers to obtain the illegal material, according to investigative reports.

The investigations have included employees of the National Security Agency, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency — which deal with some of the most sensitive work in intelligence and defense — among other organizations within the Defense Department....."

I think we have a thread on this. Let me look.

Salem

ETA: Well I didn't find it. I could have sworn I had read about this because I was ticked because NO name, NO pictures, etc. If they wouldn't have worked for the Pentagon, we would have been given that information. I think we should be given that information! We need it to protect our children!

This is my greatest fear--that the bad guys have outpaced the infrastructure of investigation and justice. SHAME. Each photo represents a victimization of a child.

Pentagon declined to investigate hundreds of purchases of child *advertiser censored*

"A 2006 Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation into the purchase of child *advertiser censored* online turned up more than 250 civilian and military employees of the Defense Department -- including some with the highest available security clearance -- who used credit cards or PayPal to purchase images of children in sexual situations. But the Pentagon investigated only a handful of the cases, Defense Department records show.

The cases turned up during a 2006 ICE inquiry, called Project Flicker, which targeted overseas processing of child-*advertiser censored* payments. As part of the probe, ICE investigators gained access to the names and credit card information of more than 5,000 Americans who had subscribed to websites offering images of child *advertiser censored*. Many of those individuals provided military email addresses or physical addresses with Army or fleet ZIP codes when they purchased the subscriptions...."

and

"...But the vast majority of those investigated, including an active-duty lieutenant colonel in the Army and an official in the office of the secretary of defense, were never charged. On top of that, 212 people on ICE's list were never investigated at all...."

This is beyond ridiculous. So, these people didn't even lose their jobs? And they weren't prosecuted? So they are essentially pedophiles in positions of national security? This is a massive joke, right? This can't really happen. It's the Pentagon for God's sake! They don't have the resources to investigate these people? That's what they do! Security! Once again, our government looks like a bunch of bozos that can't tie their own shoes. Taking a blood pressure pill now.

They've released the documents concerning the oversight (or lack thereof) concerning child *advertiser censored* at the pentagon. It sure appears to me to be a frightening security debacle:

A new article with more info:

Make certain that you click on the line which states that the documents, "can be read here", in blue.

Former counterintelligence official says Pentagon’s failure to pursue child *advertiser censored* cases is “absurd”

"One of the nation's top former counterintelligence officials says the Pentagon's decision not to investigate hundreds of purchasers of child *advertiser censored*--including more than a dozen with security clearances--is "absurd" and could render defense secrets vulnerable to espionage. The official, Kenneth deGraffenreid, formerly served as deputy National Counterintellgience Executive--an agency that coordinates counterintelliegnce policies across government agencies under the authority of the Director of National Intelligence. "As an American and an old counterintelligence professional, I'm very concerned about it," he said, referring to the Pentagon's apparent negligence in following up on documented kiddie *advertiser censored* purchases among Defense personnel...."

and

"...DeGraffenreid said that operatives for foreign intelligence services are actively looking for people who have both access to classified data and dark secrets to hide--so that it's a huge tactical oversight, at the least, for the Pentagon not to run down every name on the list and at least strip verified patrons of child *advertiser censored* of their clearances...."

FWIW:

Absurd--Ridiculously incongruous or unreasonable

Outrageous--Grossly offensive to decency or morality

Stupid--Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless

I'm not certain that the word, "absurd", quite covers this problem.

I had a 3 paragraph response typed out, that I surely feel would have gotten me banned. Suffice to say that maybe Johnny's Mom isn't as 'crazy' as many believe her to be!

I have to thank the media for this. Had they not reported the developments in this case, I doubt if anything more would have been done. Did the officials truly not realize the great security risk?

Pentagon to investigate hundreds of suspected child *advertiser censored* fans in its ranks

"In a reversal, the Pentagon says it will reopen hundreds of cases of alleged purchases of child *advertiser censored* by Department of Defense employees that Pentagon officials previously declined to investigate, The Upshot has learned...."

and

"...I have tasked Defense Criminal Investigative Service representatives with reviewing each and every Project Flicker and related referral DCIS received so as to ensure action was taken regarding these allegations involving employees of the Department of Defense," Deputy Inspector General for Investigations James Burch said..."

Pentagon lagged on pursuing *advertiser censored* cases
Senator calls it risk to US security

"The Pentagon’s investigation of defense and intelligence employees who downloaded child *advertiser censored* is being criticized in Congress after the Department of Defense acknowledged that its investigators failed to check thoroughly whether its employees were on a list of suspected *advertiser censored* viewers.

In 2006, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, which conducts Internet *advertiser censored* investigations, produced a list of 5,200 Pentagon employees suspected of viewing child *advertiser censored* and asked the Pentagon to review it. But the Pentagon checked only about two-thirds of the names, unearthing roughly 300 defense and intelligence employees who allegedly had viewed child *advertiser censored* on their work or home computers...."

So they have had to be kicked in the butt twice in order to get this investigated? Gotta love the government. idiots.

Maybe now, are they going to step it up? Of course, my first concern is the number of children who have been victimized but the security issue is major too. Imagine the possibilities of blackmail for those who possess and trade these images. The whole nation should be afraid, IMO. 1700 people with a dark secret that they'll do just about anything to hide. 5200 suspects is a shocking number, IMO.

Top Pentagon official vows 'all-out pursuit' of child *advertiser censored* suspects

"The Pentagon's top investigator is vowing an "all-out pursuit" of any employees who may have downloaded child *advertiser censored* after his agency acknowledged that 1,700 potential suspects who were referred to military investigators four years ago were never screened.

Gordon S. Heddell, the Department of Defense's Inspector General, said in a statement to the Globe today that his office, which oversees the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, is working aggressively to correct the mishandling of the cases and pursue any remaining suspects.

"I can assure those with questions that my office is conducting an aggressive pursuit of anyone implicated in Operation Flicker and that it is a key investigative priority," Heddell said in his first public statement on the matter.

"The sexual exploitation of any child is a tragedy," he added. "We are reviewing each and every Operation Flicker referral DCIS has received so as to ensure action is taken regarding allegations involving individuals with connections to the Department of Defense......"

and

"....the Pentagon checked only 3,500 out of 5,200 individuals who were suspected of downloading child *advertiser censored*....."

How convenient that they are going to investigate now that the statute of limitations has run out.

Are you sure about that Belinda? I was under the impression that there was a "protected date" concerning the original date of discovery and documentation of the *advertiser censored*. Oh, I hope so.

Grassley said that the statute of limitations has probably expired for criminal charges to be brought against any violators but said he would press for administrative punishment for anyone who is implicated.
