DeDe Spicher Questioned By Grand Jury; Friends: She Says She Forgot Phone, Was at Work When 7-Year-Old Went Missing

In an "Early Show" exclusive, Spicher's closest friends have come to her defense.

Jaimee MacKinnon, Spicher's friend, told CBS News, "DeDe would never be involved in anything that would hurt anyone."

Karen Gjerning, another friend said, "If DeDe felt that Terri had anything to do with this, DeDe would not be standing next to Terri."

Spicher's friends also revealed that she moved in with Terri Horman soon after Terri's husband, Kaine, moved out and filed for divorce.

Gjerning said, "Because DeDe is the friend that she is she stopped what she was doing and went out and stayed with her for 10 days."

Another Kyron look-a-like surfaces
Story Updated: Aug 2, 2010 at 7:50 AM PDT

A Hillsboro family wants people to know their son is not Kyron Horman.

During the past two months, they say people have repeatedly mistaken their 9-year-old son, HN, for Kyron and it's gotten to the point where their boy is scared of getting kidnapped and doesn't want to go anywhere without his parents.

Recently, the Nys family went on vacation to the Oregon coast and they had an unsettling incident where someone mistook H for Kyron. A man yelled in Starbucks that their son was the missing boy.

From the Sheriff's office:

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Kyron Case Update - 08/02/10

The search for Kyron enters 9th week. The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office continues to follow up on the numerous leads that have been generated from tips we have received.

The reward for information regarding Kyron has been increased to $50,000, due to an anonymous donation. This has spurred an increase in tips. The number of tips had reach over 3500. We have been averaging between 5 to 10 tips every hour. Many of these tips are eliminated quickly while others result in follow-up of multiple leads.

Investigations, such as this one, require all investigative agencies to conduct portions of the investigations in a manner that cannot be released to the public. Multnomah County Sheriff Office respects the public's awareness that certain portions of this investigation cannot be released. As stated numerous times we are working with due diligence in partnership with the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office and the family to bring Kyron home. We have no new investigative information available for release at this time.

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office combs through 3,500 tips in Kyron Horman case

Tips are flooding investigators as the search for 7-year-old Kyron Horman enters its ninth week.

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said that the doubling of the reward to $50,000 has spurred a flurry of calls, with investigators combing through more than 3,500 tips so far. In fact, they receive five to 10 tips every hour. Many are quickly eliminated but others are followed up on, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

“It’s clear that the district attorney, who is the legal adviser to the grand jury, is now confident enough to start this process. Hopefully, that will lead to an indictment,” said Bruce McCain, an attorney and former Multnomah County sheriff’s captain.

“They (Kyron’s parents) are probably going to be the first in a long list of civilian witnesses who will be joining the investigators and boxes and boxes of evidence in this process,” he said.

The district attorney’s office wouldn’t confirm how long the grand jury has been seated or how long it expects jurors to hear testimony, but sources at the courthouse Kaine and Desiree are the beginning of a long list of witnesses who will be called to testify.

Several people have confirmed to KATU News that they, too, have been called and added to that list of witnesses.

McCain said if Terri Horman is the prime suspect in the case, she won’t be called to testify.

“Terri will not be called to the grand jury if she is in fact the prime suspect, because if you have your prime suspect testify to the grand jury, then you just granted them immunity in the process if you compel them to testify,” he said.
