State Republican Chairman Chris Vance has been working overtime to steer his party away from the kind of far-out candidates that have embarrassed it in years past.
Which made it all the more astonishing when Vance last week anointed Tacoma's Will Baker as the GOP candidate to run against state Auditor Brian Sonntag.
