Multnomah Co. Sheriff's Office DAY 11 BRIEFING -- SHERIFF'S OFFICE THANKS PUBLIC AND PARTNERS, MOVES INVESTIGATION FORWARD

Following is a summary of statements made by Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Capt. Jason Gates during the Day 11 briefing on the Kyron Horman case -- held at 11 a.m. at Brooks Hill Historic Church (11539 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, OR 97231).

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the media for their continuous coverage of the case -- this was vitally important to keep the flow of tips coming in to investigators and Kyron's image fresh in the eyes of the public.

Here are some statistics on the search and investigation thus far: From June 5 to Saturday, June 12, there were a total of 1,300 searchers in the field -- possibly the largest search operation of its kind in the State of Oregon. Additionally, 213 separate investigators from 42 different law-enforcement agencies in Oregon, Washington, and Northern California.

The next phase of this investigation will include a secondary canvassing of the neighborhood and school, as well as transitioning out of the command post on Skyline Road.

We thank Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue for their generosity in opening up their facilities to the Sheriff's Office for use as a command post.

The Sheriff's Office thanks the public for their generous donations of food. The public donated an over 20 pallets of food and refreshments to the search for Kyron. Regional search-and-rescue organizations were sent home with "as much food as they can carry," for use in the busy upcoming search and rescue season. The remainder will be donated to the Portland Rescue Mission.

This is the final scheduled press event at Brooks Hill Historic Church. Media updates will come in the form of regular releases on the Sheriff's Office FlashAlert feed.

We also offer special thanks to Ms. Cindy Banks for opening the Brooks Hill Historic Church to the media and the Sheriff's Office -- this made the process of holding these press events extraordinarily easy.

The Office is steeled in its resolve to not let this become a cold case -- We are focused on this investigation and we remind all citizens of the $25,000 reward for information leading us to Kyron.

Attached is a picture of Kyron Horman that has altered only to the extent to remove the eye glasses. This has been done to provide a photo to the public to show what Kyron would look like without eye glass. It is hoped that this photo will help to bring Kyron home.

The family of Kyron Horman answered personal questions about the 7-year-old via Multnomah County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Shults during a Saturday media briefing and also explained some of their outings in the last week - to stores and a health club.

On the search end, efforts continue to find Kyron alive, said Sgt. Diana Olsen of the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

"We know where he's not, so we feel we're getting closer to where he is," she said. She declined to say why searchers were on Sauvie Island, a considerable distance from Skyline School.

"The other question was about why the family continued to use their social network connections, go out to the store and to a health club. Shults said they were asked to by police experts, who wanted them to continue their normal routine to the degree possible."

While Multnomah County sheriff’s Capt. Jason Gates didn't answer questions about the quickness of the search effort on camera, off camera he strongly said they had a “powerhouse” of resources starting Friday, June 4, the day Kyron vanished from Skyline School.

He said initially they had no reason to believe that they wouldn’t find Kyron within the first hours that weekend.

According to the sheriff’s office, the glasses displayed in the photos are the same model, brand and color of Kyron’s glasses.

"Lindstrand said a white pickup truck removed from the Horman property was not towed as part of the investigation. The Horman family had tried to drive the truck to the grocery store, found that the starter was dead and called a tow truck, she said."

***Was the truck ever searched by LE? (I'm REALLY starting to wonder if the truck was switched by LE at the repair shop)

On Wednesday investigators gave some examples of the sorts of tips they have to sort through. They said one person left a message on the tip line that told them to stop holding news conferences because they were interrupting the person’s soap operas.

To keep Kyron’s picture in front of the public and to protect the investigation while digging through all the tips that are coming in.

In the effort to keep the public interested in the case, investigators now have a little extra help.

Clear Channel Outdoor in Oregon and Southwest Washington donated space for 30 billboards in the metro area that feature Kyron’s picture and ask for any information about his disappearance in three languages: English, Spanish and Russian. Those billboards will be up for the next few weeks.

The search: Sheriff's Capt. Jason Gates said investigators were still running into resistance from a few people who don't want searchers in their homes, but most people have complied and the number of unsearched homes is small. Investigators also have almost completed a second canvassing of the neighborhood, defined as an area in about a four-mile radius around Skyline School.

Kyron's eyesight is pretty bad, right? Maybe LE was floating the idea that someone purposefully removed his glasses to make it harder for him to see where he was going? Maybe they wanted people to be on the lookout for discarded glasses like Kyron's. But one pair of glasses could be anywhere. There's so much forest and underbrush and they have not given us an area to focus on. I don't know.

Anyhow, you're doing a lot of work BeanE. I think what you are doing here by compiling all the various reports to reexamine is similar to what LE investigators probably do. Pretty cool. You should get paid!!!!

How many times did they visit that area? Maybe they just feel they have searched all the can there for now without further direction.
