As a woman watched the burglar armed with a crowbar move through her Skokie home, the burglar repeatedly apologized to her even as he helped himself to cash and jewelry, Skokie police said Thursday.
"I don't want to do this, but I haven't had a job for so long and I have three children to support," he said, according to authorities.
The burglar spared only the room of the woman's teenage daughter, telling his victim about his own children. He even promised he would call later and tell her where he would pawn the victim's belongings. That way maybe she could reclaim them.
