Phoenix pediatrician charged with distributing child *advertiser censored*

"PHOENIX -- A Phoenix pediatrician was charged with distributing child *advertiser censored*.

Dr. Emilio Luna, 40, of Sun City, was arrested Wednesday after FBI investigators learned that thousands of files of suspected child *advertiser censored* were shared from his computer in a public peer-to-peer file-sharing system.

Luna works at Desert Valley Pediatrics in Phoenix...."

Thousands of images, pediatrician, connections and he walks?

Judge issues release of Sun City pediatrician in child-*advertiser censored* case

".....During a search of Luna's bedroom, investigators seized two laptops, a desktop computer, four external hard drives and approximately 300 DVDs and DVD-Rs, some of which were encrypted. Investigators also found multiple passports and approximately $15,550 in a file folder in his closet.

Luna began working at Desert Valley Pediatrics in January of this year. Authorities do not know if any of the images were of patients from the West Valley practice..."

Pediatrician Suspect in Child *advertiser censored* Case was Sole User of Computers, Feds Allege; Graphic Complaint Describes Images

"Luna, who has also worked in El Paso, lives at home with his elderly parents in the 10700 block of West Peoria Avenue in Sun City, states the complaint obtained by New Times. When agents went to the house this week, they found that Luna's father has dementia and his mother, a Spanish speaker, has no idea how to use a computer. [I guess the "man came in the window" excuse won't fly]..."

And a link to the criminal complaint:

Note: It seems apparent that the victims were prepubescent boys and the above document is extremely graphic. Please be cautious of triggers.

Ugh. Wonder if some of his patients will come forward to claim he molested them.

Why would they let this guy out? He had multiple passports, multiple driver's licenses and a bunch of money stashed. If these are not adequate signs of the likelihood someone will bolt, I don't know what is. If this guy takes off, there needs to be some serious letter writing to the judge that let him go. This is a joke.

Folks--I'm certainly not trying to "promote" my threads. However, I don't think this case has quite sunk in yet. I found a video worth watching. This pediatrician received his degree at UCLA and has practiced in 3 states. He has connections. He's walking free right now. Yep.

Also please note that I linked to the criminal complaint above. Nasty man.

Please watch the video.

from the site MissIzzy just posted,

"Conditions of his release include that he surrender his passports, wear an electronic monitoring device and not have access to children or the Internet.

Authorities said Luna would not be released until those conditions were met. It was not clear if he remained in custody Friday evening. "

I've read everything I can find and can find no new info about his release. I also worry about the possibility that he could slip over the border (those connections). He is bilingual and no doubt has some like minded friends that might be willing to help him out.

I really believe that this planned release is short-sided. The children in the videos deserve protection!!

I agree. Taking away his passports and the ankle monitor won't really deter him. It's a really bonehead move. But Federal Judges tend to do boneheaded stuff because they can.

Dr. Luna has been indicted and RELEASED. Please read the document above which describes the level of *advertiser censored* he produced and possessed. And he's still walking free. This is dated September 10th:

"A federal grand jury has indicted a Phoenix pediatrician for distributing child *advertiser censored*...."

and

"...He was released by the court and is forbidden to have access to the Internet or children while under supervision of U.S. Pretrial Services...."

Being that this is a pediatrician who has practiced for 10 years in three states, where are the comments? Are parents of his patients being contacted?

This is just sick. I'm a Pediatrician...we're supposed to take care of child patients--not engage in this crap. I hope they have enough to throw the book at him and take away his license to practice!!!!!!

dr dona--Thank you for commenting. I don't think we've crossed paths before. Do you happen to know what steps would be taken to identify this man's victims? He has great credentials, supportive family, and speaks multiple languages. He's within yards of an international border.

It does sound like they have plenty of evidence if you read the criminal complaint:

http://vvoice.vo.llnwd.net/e14/5293179.0.pdf

And ITA, pediatricians hold a special place in our society indeed. They have vowed to care for the little ones, not victimize them. Parents so desperately want to trust.

I set aside the document to read carefully and I have a question. Why would a pediatrician at a busy practice have time to download 10,000 files (920 gigabytes) at 1:26 pm on a Friday afternoon? I've been using the services of pediatricians for almost 36 years and I've found Friday afternoons to be one of the busiest times.

Luna was doing this from his home, which he purchased two years ago and shared with his parents. I also noticed that the FBI were careful to determine that there were no unsecured wireless access points at Luna's home. Nope. Just "Las Lunas". Being that his mother didn't speak English nor know how to access the computer and his father has Alzheimer's, no doubt it's our guy.

So he did this on his lunch hour? And then went back to work doing exams on children and teens?

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm, Doc left. He's gone.

Where the he*l is Emilio Luna?

He was allowed to attend Church services. Sunday evening his vehicle was found in a lot. Bolt cutters and our all fave GPS pedo tracker were in the vehicle.

Luna has residences in Texas, California, and Illinois. He may also have fled to his birthplace of Zacatecas, Mexico. Hmmmmmmm, wonder where he went?

Well now, there's a big shock, eh? Grrr.

He's headed south where he'll set up an informal clinic for children and be admired for his giving spirit...until another group of young boys start showing up in his films.

I had a bad feeling about this from moment one. Even looking at this objectively as possible can someone play devil's advocate and explain what was going through this judge's mind? The man speaks several languages, he has connections, he's owed some favors undoubtedly, he's right on the border, he has highly marketable skills, he's handsome and most likely knows how to charm.

I don't get it.

Well, on the bright side, if they do catch him, my bet is that he will be held in jail with no bail.

Doctors are always held to different standards than the general public when it comes to punishment for crimes. Unfortunately hospitals help cover up crimes and LE is slow to respond

Doctors are some of the most unusual people I know.

Just reading this thread for the first time, and my jaw dropped. You guys really called it! Shocking.
