Jean and James Warhola, 7 and 9, had “defensive injuries consistent with a struggle involving the hands” and injuries around their throats when police found their bodies in their bedroom Wednesday evening, police wrote in a news release.

Their mother, Sun Cha Warhola, 44, was booked into Davis County Jail just before 4 a.m. Thursday. She was being held without bail on suspicion of two counts of aggravated murder.

This article from 2013 references a possible upcoming competency hearing for Sun Warhola this fall. I tried myself to find if one is scheduled, but I didn't have any luck. If anyone has heard about an update or can find one I'd be very grateful :)

The Layton woman accused of strangling her two children on Sept. 8, 2010 is still not competent to stand trial.
Sun Cha Warhola, 48, was scheduled to appear in 2nd District Court on Monday, but her attorney, Edward Brass, filed a motion earlier in the morning to move Warhola’s competency hearing to the fall of 2015.

I found this, posted August 2, 2015:

A hearing to review the mental competency of Sun Cha Warhola had been scheduled for Friday in 2nd District Court. It was canceled on Tuesday and another hearing is scheduled for Jan. 8, according to the court docket.

Her attorney, Ed Brass, said in an email to the Standard-Examiner on Friday that Warhola “has been determined to be incompetent every time this has been reviewed, which is every six months. The State Hospital has concluded she is delusional and as a result cannot assist her attorneys, Ms. Cordova and me, in her defense. I cannot speculate what would happen at a trial. Unless she becomes competent, which seems increasingly unlikely given the passage of time, she may never have a trial.”

Thank you very much MsMarple, I appreciate you finding that!

She sounds like she is where she needs to be. I hope they keep her there for her lifetime. I wonder how Mr. Warhol has coped these 5 years.

The woman has been receiving treatment at the Utah State Hospital since May 2011.

A new competency review hearing was recently set for May 1, 2017.

After years of treatment, Layton mother accused of killing 2 children incompetent for trial

After years of treatment at the Utah State Hospital, a Layton mother accused of killing her two children remains incompetent to stand trial, leaving her case on hold indefinitely.

In a written order handed down Monday, 2nd District Court Judge Michael Allphin found that the state hospital has run up against the maximum amount of time allowed by law to try to restore Sun Cha Warhola, now 51, to the point that she is capable of facing the two aggravated murder charges against her.

The judge ordered that no further court hearings be held, and that Warhola continue to be held in the Utah State Hospital until a civil court judge orders that she be committed to the facility.

Brass said Tuesday that if Warhola is ever released from the hospital or found competent in the future, prosecutors can resume their case against her.
