Holding good thoughts for the hostages. I worked at a bank for years and know this is an ever present danger. May they all get out safely.

he/she has got to know there is no way out and either he is going to be killed or arrested no choice in the matter. Just let the poor hostages go and walk out and take the punishment. Its much better then hurting anyone

Thanks for starting this thread. I went to UM and lived in Miami for several years and still have many friends down there. I've been following this closely. Praying they all get out safely!!

Coral Gables Police say one person remains inside the Bank of America branch on US1 in Coral Gables, and it's believed that a suspected bomb is also in the building, as the situation changes rapidly in what police first called a hostage situation. Now, police say all customers and employees have left the bank, and a negotiation team is in place to talk with the person remaining inside.

FBI and police sources say the robbery attempt started Thursday night, after an unidentified bank employee was apparently kidnapped from a South Miami-Dade apartment complex, and apparently used to gain access to the bank Friday morning before it opened for business.

Police sources say at least one masked robber, possibly 2, gained access to the bank just before 8 a.m. Friday, at the bank branch located at 1500 South Dixie Highway in Coral Gables, directly across from the campus of the University of Miami.

Praise and thanksgiving that there are no longer hostages/employees etc in the bank. Prayers that this situation is resolved without injury to any person.

Just had local news break in down here with a presser. First the coral Gables PD spoke then the FBI.

Here's the jist:

Last night 3 men committed a home invasion. The home invasion was the house of a bank teller at this bank.

The 3 suspects held the father and the teller (young 20-something male) hostage until this morning.

This morning they strapped a bomb to the teller and drove him to the bank.

The teller was sent inside to get as much money as he could and to bring it out. He was told they had a remote detonation - so he better do as he's told.

He went inside told the branch manager and got money which he took out to the car and the suspects drove away after telling him to go back inside the bank.

Once back inside, 911 was called. They managed to get the bomb off the teller and they are questioning him now.

The car is believed to be a red mustang - but the FBI said they were going to do a press release concerning the car and suspects in a little bit.

So there ya have it.

I'm wondering if the teller was part of this or just an innocent that possibly knew the wrong people. Obviously these guys knew he was a bank teller.

They have verified it was a "viable" bomb - but haven't siad what it was made of or anything specifics.

Thank GOD the bomb is no longer attached to the teller.

Reminds me so much of the pizza delivery guy back a ways who died when the cops didn't get the bomb off in time.

Prayers for this teller...how traumatic.

Fla. bank robbers strap bomb to abducted teller

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — A bank teller was kidnapped early Friday from his home by robbers who strapped a suspected bomb to his chest and used him to steal money from a Bank of America branch near the University of Miami, according to the FBI.

The suspected explosive device was safely removed, and the shirtless teller was brought out of the bank shortly before noon. The FBI would not say whether it was a viable explosive but said it contained "bomb-making materials" that were being examined for evidence.

Bank Employee Used To Steal Money, FBI Says

Coral Gables police Chief Richard Naue said three men broke into the teller's home, holding him and his father hostage for several hours. Two of the men allegedly drove the teller to the bank, while the third held the man's father hostage. All three made a clean getaway.

The alleged robbers never actually entered the bank. Naue said they sent the booby-trapped teller inside to retrieve an undisclosed amount of cash. The branch manager, who was the only other employee there before the bank opened, then called police.
