Circumstances of Disappearance
Shannon was attending art school in Dallas, Texas at the time of his disappearance.
He was last seen on his way to the Houma Greyhound Bus station and had indicated he was traveling back to an art school in Dallas but has not contacted friends or family.
Harris struggled with drugs and hung out with a group of friends involved in "illegal activities."
Police dug up an empty, acre-sized lot near Ninth Street and Hollywood Road after a jail house informant told police Harris was killed and dumped there.
His body has never been recovered, despite a 2002 search.
Police believed the informant but thinks the body may have been moved or otherwise disturbed when the property, a swampy, wooded lot studded with cypress trees in 1998, was cleared and leveled with 3 feet of fill dirt in the years prior to the search.

Stanley Briggs Jr.

Houma Police arrested Stanley Briggs Jr., 47, of 303 Stovall St., Monday on charges of second-degree murder and failure to appear in court, the agency said in a news release Tuesday. He was booked into the Terrebonne jail on a $500,000 bond.

On Sept. 19, officers responded to a medical emergency on Stovall Street and aided Briggs for an apparent drug reaction, Houma Police Chief Dan Coleman said.

During conversation with officers, Briggs disclosed information related to the disappearance of Harris, who is believed to have been buried somewhere in Terrebonne Parish, the police chief said. Over the course of a week, detectives continued their investigation based on information Briggs supplied.

"The location is off Hollywood Road, where we dug 18 years ago," Coleman said. "But he led us to a different spot. We're in the process of looking for remains now."

A warrant was obtained for second-degree murder, and Briggs was booked Monday into the Terrebonne jail, police said.

Remains Found
Police and sheriff’s deputies in Houma believe they may finally have answers in the disappearance of a man 22 years ago.

A body was found this week and officers say the suspected killer led them right to it.

Heavy machinery and crime scene investigators were at the corner of 9th Street and North Hollywood Road in Houma, where police believe they have found the body of Shannon Harris.

Terrebone Parish Sheriff’s Office and LSU was also on the scene to help excavate the body.

LSU will help identify the body in their lab.

Houma Police are confident it is Shannon Harris.
