Prosecutor Karen Thorsrud outlined the Crown's case in her opening statement. She told the jury of six men and six women that the Semenovichs had been unhappily married for 50 years and that money was a constant source of disagreement in the household.

"It was culmination of anger and bitterness over the 50 years that led to the disastrous circumstances that bring us here today," she said.

The Crown alleges Alex Semenovich was killed by a shotgun blast to the head. The jury is expected to hear evidence that Semenovich climbed on a brick planter outside her husband's bedroom window, opened the window and fired, killing him while he slept.

The next morning, Thorsrud said, Semenovich confessed to her grandson, Brian Semenovich, and later called her daughter, Laurie Semenovich, to help move the body.

The trio dragged the 240-pound body to the incinerator, Thorsrud said, but the incinerator wouldn't fire, so they called some repairmen.

"This was a planned and deliberate murder," she said.

Vic Small said that previous chat happened months before the alleged killing, when he was inspecting an incinerator Anne Semenovich was thinking about buying.

“I asked her why she wanted an incinerator like that on her acreage,” Small told a Court of Queen’s Bench jury.

“She said she wanted to burn her husband in there.”

Wow, wonder how that phone conversation went?

Hello sweety, can you come over and give your granny a hand with something heavy?

Oh my. So what we have here are 3 generations represented in this family that lack either morals and/or common sense. I wonder if she actually meant it at the time of purchasing the incinerator, or if the killing her husband remark somehow turned into a great idea?

Accused killer threatened by victim, grandson says

The grandson of a 74-year-old Alberta woman charged with first-degree murder says he saw his grandfather chase her with a large kitchen knife and swing a baseball bat at her.

Brian Semenovich was raised by his grandparents and still lived with them when 77-year-old Alex Semenovich died. He told the jury his grandparents fought regularly for about four or five hours a day.

Alex Semenovich often threatened to kill his wife, court hears

Court heard other details about the Semenovich house on Tuesday. When RCMP searched the property in April 2008, they found guns in the kitchen broom closet, shoved between a mattress and a box spring, propped against dressers, and tucked behind insulation in the basement.

Twenty-five firearms were seized in total, court heard.

RCMP officers also noted the garbage that filled the house. One constable wore a mask while searching the residence, so as not to inhale the flies and mosquitoes that swarmed through the house.

Earlier in the day, a forensic investigator walked the jury through physical evidence found on Semenovich's acreage near Spruce Grove, including photos showing a bloody bedroom where the 77-year-old victim was allegedly shot and killed.

Semenovich has denied shooting her husband and claims she doesn't know how he died. But the 74-year-old has admitted to dragging her husband's body to the incinerator.

This case just draws me in for several reasons....the age of the accused, the 50 year marriage, the pre purchased incinerator, and the 3 generation cover up.

A few random thoughts...

The prosecutors claim the wife stood up on a planter and shot through the window to kill DH. When the wife appears in court, she can barely hobble on two crutches. Good defense tatic??

Grandson says victim was abusive. What else is he gonna say? I helped lug a loving kind hearted man to the incinerator after my grandma shot him while he slept?

The wife planned how to get rid of the body BEFORE she shot her husband. Incinerator purchase

Wife says she doesn't know how he died but she dragged him to be burned. Yeah! Right!

I want to hear from someone not related to the wife that the victim was mentally failing and abusive.

Was this a 3 way plan? Who really pulled the trigger? Maybe the wife was considered the most sympathetic victim like one of the three. Most likely to gain sympathy from a jury.

Did the victim have any money? saleable assets (ie land)? life insurance?

Something just doesn't set well with me re wife, daughter, grandson.....:waitasec:
