I was reading through Steve Thomas book when I came upon this:

Burke Ramsey had returned to classes, without police escort, a few weeks after a "small foreign faction" killed his sister. When Detective Gossage called a therapist who we were told had seen JonBenet, he was told to "talk to the Parents Attorneys".

I have not seen this statement about a therapist other than in Steve Thomas book. Anyone know anything about the who what or where of this "Therapist"?

I hadn't seen it either. I do know her medical records were kept from police.

Incredible. Parents of a murdered child "MIGHT be available by fax".
Yep- they REALLY wanted the "real killer" found.

(Did OJ have a fax, too?- he also wanted the "real killer" found.)

By therapist, is that referring to someone with the couch where you tell them your problems or more of a guidance counselor at a school? I can see a 6-year-old whose parents are getting a divorce of if a close family member or friend died, going to therapy but that doesn't fit JBR. Also, Patsy or John would have had to sign her up for that since obviously JBR isn't going to call in herself. Why would they send her to therapy? Remember, it was all about the perfect family--sending the 6-year-old to therapy doesn't exactly equal perfection.

In elementary school, we had a woman come to our classroom and tell us that if we needed someone to talk to, she was available. If JonBenet decided that she wanted to talk to the therapist, what was it about? For a 6-year-old to decide on her own to do that, is pretty big IMO. She must have realized that there was a problem that she couldn't talk to Mom, Dad, or her siblings and friends about. I don't think she would have confessed to the therapist about abuse because aren't school officials required to report that? Maybe it was about hating pageants?

It's weird though that it's been covered up--not just what she said, but how the therapy sessions came out, when did they start, when did they end, how often, etc.

I know that in middle and high school, we were told that if we wanted someone to talk to, we could go to see the school's therapist/guidance counselor. I'm not sure if they have those in elementary school but I wouldn't be surprised. If JonBenet decided that she wanted to talk to the therapist, what was it about? We really don't have much information about this at all. And yes, it is strange that it has been, not so much covered up, but ignored. I would say that Patsy was probably not thrilled with it being known that JB was "in therapy". People already raised eyebrows about JB's pageant "career". And you can bet that some people would blame that for JB needing to be in therapy in the first place.
Yes, a therapist would be required to report any abuse that the patient mentioned, if patient was a child. But let's face it, not every therapist (or pediatrician or teacher) will do so. Some don't want to get involved, some have other reasons for not reporting it (like a friendship or business relationship with the parent(s). )

Maybe the kids had therapy when Patsy was away so much with the cancer and thinking she was terminally ill.

Good point. I can certainly see where any parent would want to do that. JB was only 3 when Patsy went through her treatments, and even at that age, kids are very aware when a parent is ill.

Hiya txsvicki.

Yes, maybe to help her in coping with PR's cancer?

The bed wetting was my first thought also. Either way, counseling concerning Patsy's illness or the bed wetting could have told a lot about what went on the Ramsey household. Why else would team Ramsey prevent the release of the information?

One thing is for sure, guys. If JonBenet requested to talk to the counselor at school, that counselor would have gone straight to DFCS. They are afraid not to. I don't think the Ramsey's wealth or political pull could have prevented this. If she was in therapy, I believe it was because Patsy put her there. Maybe on the advice of her pediatrician? Hmmmmm........

One more thing, I know of a little boy (he's 4) who is in therapy because his mother believes a certain main is "grooming" him. He's been in therapy for about 8 weeks and he talks about whatever he wants to. It took 7 weeks for him to trust the therapist enough to tell her the story that he told his mom. This was with twice weekly therapy. Now, this man will be getting a visit from a detective. His mom was upset that they didn't do this to begin with, but from what she learned, the child has to admit the "charges" to someone in authority before LE can be brought in. It just occured to me that this could have been happening with JonBenet and she may have been close to telling exactly what had been bothering her. Maybe someone could not let that happen? I'm in Georgia and I know things are different everywhere, but this news of a therapist may put a whole new spin on lots of things.

joeskidbeck,

Sure does especially when we know JonBenet crossed many state lines in her pageant travels, not to mention her time at atlanta with the paughs.

.

Of course, I don't know for sure, but my impression is that JB saw a therapist when she was 3, to help her through her mother's cancer treatments. Not to help her deal with the stress of her pageant career.

Patsy's cancer occured three years earlier...I don't believe JonBenet was seeing a therapist for that. Big things were happening in the month of December. Linda Hoffman Pugh stated that JonBenet began wetting her bed the month before...

Nov/Dec was really busy time for JonBenet...trip to NYC, pageants, pageants, pageants. Poor little girl even performed at High Peaks, class after class that at the end poor JonBenet was exhausted.

JonBenet's trips to the school nurse AFTER the weekend.

The party on the 23d where she was found crying and not feeling pretty.

The frantic calls to Dr. Beuf...three calls...what was so urgent? If JonBenet had gottten injured, Patsy could have taken her to the Emergency Room.

This little girl was being abused, no doubt about it.

I agree. This makes me think that Patsy was NOT the abuser. But that she knew who it was and she was upset about it.

Yes, DeeDee, I agree. I think Patsy was trying to get to the bottom of what was really going on with JonBenet, through the proper channels. If she suspected something she would have needed proof and that's why I think the visits with her pediatrician are so important. Being a friend of this family, his smartest move would have been to recommend a good child therapist. I just happen to believe that something happened that night and Patsy got all the proof she needed.
