The brother, Nenad Perisic, told Houston TV station KHOU on Tuesday that his brother “was a man of his word” because he had warned his wife. “He told her a couple of months ago, ‘If you don’t get together, you know what I’m going to do to the kids. They can go over my dead body to Montreal,’ ” the brother said.
On Sunday evening, Zivorad Subotic, the priest at Montreal’s Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, received a call from a distraught Predrag Perisic, who had been a parishioner when he lived in Montreal. He asked the priest to call his wife and tell her he would kill the children and commit suicide if she did not stop the legal proceedings,” Mr. Subotic said.
“I told him you don’t have the right to kill even yourself, or your kids. But he was very much out of his mind, I think. . . . He was so desperate.” He relayed the message to Ms. Vucerakovich and gave her the phone number from which Mr. Perisic had called. He did not call police but was contacted by a Montreal detective on Monday and filed a report.
