Bassett, VA - It's been nearly two weeks since a Henry County teenager went missing. His mother, Carla Thomas, says she feels deep down that her 19-year-old son, Cory, is alive, but that he needs help.

He's been missing since Halloween. Officials say they found the SUV Cory was driving abandoned in the Oak Level area. Police say there are no signs of foul play, but they do think it's highly suspicious he hasn't been in contact with his family or friends.

Carla Thomas says the night her son disappeared started off like any other. Cory told his mother he loved her and went to meet his friends. He never came home. She says it kills her not to know what happened to Cory.

"Sometimes I just wander off in my mind and when I come back to reality, I realize he's not here... he's not here," said Thomas. "You don't know what it's like to be a mother and your child is out there, and you don't know if they're cold or they're hungry."

The family believes something or someone is preventing him from reaching out to them.

His aunt Darlene Calloway says they're trying to stay strong, but they worry Cory's suffering.

"I would prefer that than to think that maybe he's thrown in the ditch or buried," said Calloway. "I would like to have my Cory back. We miss him, we love him. If you took him, we love you too. Just send Cory back."

Carla says she's holding on to memories and to hope that her son is still alive.

"I just want him to come home," said Calloway.

Police say they've received reports of a tan or gold Corolla that was last seen with Cory's van. They want to hear from whoever was inside that car. If you have any information, call the sheriff's office at 276-656-4200.

A connection between Miller and another missing man, 19-year-old Cory Thomas of Bassett, had not been confirmed Thursday night, Perry said.

“There is a potential for the cases to be related, but at this point, we can’t say conclusively,” he said.

Thomas last was seen Oct. 31 in a burgundy Chevrolet Blazer. The vehicle was found abandoned the next day on U.S. 220 in Oak Level, police have said.

Perry said police still are investigating Thomas’ whereabouts.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office were exploring a separate location Thursday in Horsepasture. Perry declined to say what, if anything, they found there, or how that area might be related to the Penrose Drive location.

Authorities are not saying if foul play has been ruled out in connection with the disappearance of Cory Thomas.

“It is a possibility, but we are not able to confirm” that foul play was involved, said Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry.

Perry also would not say if authorities think Thomas’ disappearance and the recent shooting death of Jason Lamont Miller are related.

The sheriff's office is also looking for 19-year-old Cory Thomas. Thomas has been reported missing and hasn't been seen since October 31st. He is wanted on first degree murder and other charges as well.

Warrants are still outstanding against Cory Sharon Thomas. The outstanding warrants are:

First Degree Murder
Robbery
Use of a firearm in the commission of robbery
Use of a firearm in the commission of murder

Wow that's a surprising twist. The family's been on TV several times here since Halloween and the mom was crying and begging someone to tell them where her child was. The media made out like he was the victim of an abduction or foul play. I wonder if any of the family knew about any of this...

What an odd story.

Two men face first-degree murder charges
Wednesday, November 24, 2010
By DEBBIE HALL AND AMANDA BUCK - Bulletin Staff Writers

A Bassett man missing since Oct. 31 is wanted on a murder charge in connection with a body found buried in a wooded area last week, and a second man has been arrested and charged in the slaying, officers said Tuesday.

Wednesday afternoon the Henry County Sheriff’s office received a tip directing them to search the woods off Woodland Drive in Bassett. Soon after, they found a body that had attempted to be covered up and concealed. Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry says it appeared to have been there for a while and crime scene investigators worked until noon Thursday to identify the body. “You have to go back because you don't know if anything has been thrown away, so it takes a while to work it,” said Perry. Perry tells us the home up the slope from where the body was found has been vacant for years but that it may be used for a meeting place. He also says they are treating this investigation as a homicide because of the way the body was left and attempted to be covered up. A search warrant shows the tipster who called in suspected this body had something to do with the disappearance of Cory Thomas. Thomas was last seen on Halloween and was also wanted in connection with another murder in Henry County. http://www2.wsls.com/news/2011/mar/03/body-found-henry-county-suspected-homicide-ar-881524/

Thomas, along with another Bassett man, Patrick A. Gilbert, had been charged in the November shooting death of 26-year-old Jason Lamont Miller. Miller's family members reported him missing Nov. 16, 2010. His body was found the next day in a shallow grave near a mobile home in rural Penrose Drive in Bassett, just a few miles from where Thomas' Blazer was found.
