Woman discovers sister stabbed to death on kitchen floor

The sound went on for hours, hair-raising wails that rolled down the sloping neighborhood block like an enveloping fog.

One by one frantic relatives arrived outside the modest family home in the 100 block of Chickering Avenue Thursday evening to learn that their beloved sister — Ofelia Alvarado, 25 — had been brutally stabbed to death, her bloodied body left on the kitchen floor.
---
"She was an awesome person — kind, honest, loving," said Chris Alvarado, the victim's older brother. "She would help anyone out. Why would anyone want to hurt her?"
---
Neighbors said a male acquaintance who was at the home throughout the afternoon disappeared in a blue Chevy Cobalt shortly before the police arrived. Police declined to confirm whether the alleged visitor was a suspect or whether they were searching for him.

East Side Woman Found Slain In Home

[Delia] Lopez said she enjoyed living next door to the Alvarados. She said she could often hear the girls and their mother laughing and having a good time together.
---
Lopez said she thought she heard a scream come from the home around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, but dismissed the noise as kids playing. She said she now believes she heard [Ofelia] Alvarado struggling with her attacker.

"I heard the yell, but like I said, I thought it was the kids playing," Lopez said, adding she would have tried to help her neighbor if she knew what was happening to her. "I've done crazy things like that. If I'd seen him, I probably would have jumped the fence or tried to do something."

Officers arrested 25-year-old Mario Ramiro and charged him with murder. Police said the suspect was friends with the victim and he became angry when she did not want to be more than friends.

Ramiro is another monster that needs to be locked away forever.

Bloody knife found in accused killer's car
---
A day before she was killed, Ofelia Alvarado, 25, told her older sister that Mario Ramirez, 25, was “creeping her out” ever since she had rebuffed him, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
---
After agreeing to speak with investigators, Ramirez admitted owning the vehicle but denied being at Alvarado's home Thursday. Investigators obtained a search warrant for his car and found bloody women's clothing, a birth certificate belonging to Alvarado and a large knife covered in blood and hair, the affidavit states.

“She was the sweetest girl,” said John Mozisek, 25, a close friend in the Army who had known Alvarado since high school. “She was very religious, and when I was stationed abroad in Korea she always said prayers for me. It meant a lot.”

I just wanted to say that I was a part of the jury on this trial. The horrors of this case will always be a part of me. And we came to multiple conclusions on this case that could not be entered as part of what happened due to lack of evidence. And just the account of Mario on the events that occurred that night did not matched anything that was found at the scene. I wish we could have given him a harsher sentence but we gave him the max that we could. We felt that even the family was at risk from this man.
