State police seeking help in locating missing Grass Lake woman

The Michigan State Police are seeking help in finding a 34-year-old Grass Lake woman who has been missing since Thursday.

Tonia Renee Stiles was last seen Thursday morning at her residence on Orban Road in Grass Lake Township, said Lt. Jim Shaw, commander of the Jackson post.

Stiles does not have a cell phone or a vehicle, Shaw said, and friends and family have not been able to contact her.

Stiles is white with blue eyes and blonde hair. She is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. Police do not know what she was wearing when she went missing.

Shaw said Stiles has left unannounced in the past, but did not take any personal items with her this time. He does not suspect foul play at this time.

Shaw asks anyone with information about Stiles to contact him at 780-4580 ext. 233, or Trooper Gordon Van Gelder at ext. 813.

With others help, siblings, and a friend of a missing Grass Lake Township woman are searching the wooded area today around the home she shared with her boyfriend on Orban Road.

Until we know what happened to her. We are going to keep searching. We are not going to give up, said Charity Golombek, a friend to Tonia Renee Stiles, 34.

Patrick Whitehill and a small search party are looking high and low for Grass Lake resident Tonia Renee Stiles, 34. The mother of two has been missing since November 18. Family and friends have organized a search for Stiles that has been ongoing since Friday.

Jackson County Sheriff Department is reporting the death of an inmate Friday morning at their Wesley Street Facility.

Cassidy was the person who reported Stiles missing in November.

Mother of missing Grass Lake woman shocked after daughter's boyfriend commits suicide in Jackson County Jail

The mother of Tonia Renee Stiles said she is shocked and baffled to hear the boyfriend of her missing daughter killed himself today in the Jackson County Jail.

Why would he do something like that? said Betty Whitehill of Jackson, who with her husband adopted Stiles when she was 9.

I feel so horrible for his mom. I know he was an only child, she said. It just breaks your hear that everything would come to this.

His girlfriend has been missing since Nov. 18. It has not been determined whether he had anything to do with Stiles disappearance.

34 year old Tonia Stiles has been missing since November 18th and her boyfriend, Scott Cassidy, in jail for stealing a van, took his own life. Stiles' parents are worried over what this could mean in the search for their daughter. In the home of Betty and James Whitehill, photos of their daughter Tonia Stiles fill the walls.

A candlelight vigil for Tonia Stiles will be held at 6pm at Napoleon Park in Napoleon.

Vigil held for missing Grass Lake woman (with video)

Praying for a woman they called bubbly and outgoing, friends and family of Tonia Renee Stiles gathered Saturday by candlelight to buoy spirits as hope for her safe return dims.

More than 50 people attended an evening vigil at Napoleon Township Park for Stiles, who has been missing since Nov. 18. They wiped away tears as prayers were read aloud.

News has not been as fortunate in the searches for Tonia Stiles of Grass Lake and Heather Cousino of Albion Township.

Troopers and sergeants at the Michigan State Police Jackson post are still running down leads and looking for any evidence that might point them toward Stiles, said 1st Lt. Jim Shaw, the post commander, and Sgt. Sherry Curtis. A bloody shirt found by searchers has been sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and investigators are waiting on results, Curtis said.

Nathan Gorzens father threw him a surprise party to celebrate his recent 16th birthday.

Many were there, showering him with silly string, but one notable person was absent, the woman who rented Gorzen bounce houses, a magician and even a petting zoo on past birthdays.

His mother, Tonia Renee Stiles, whose presents and parties always were over the top, has been missing for seven months.
