What is your take on this? MHO is that this means the hair expert that they had concluded that the hair belonged to Caylee and that there was a death band on it so that expert will not be called at trial.

Yes, that is what I got out of it. That their hair expert is unable to refute ANYTHING that the prosecution has. Because if their expert could have refuted anything, you would think they would have used him/her.

ICA is toast. Why have such a large defense team when they seem to be doing nothing to defend her?

MOO

Having no hair expert is huge, as is the fact of no reports by expert witnesses. I tells me that they have no defense to put on at trial. They are probably thinking they will take it all the way to the last minute and then try to deal. I see no reason for a SA to deal other than to save themselves some time, but honestly, IMO, if there ever was a trial that needed to be held, it is this one. No deal for ICA and her sideshow. Justice for Caylee!

Who exactly was going to testify as their "Hair Expert"? Dr. Werner Spitz or Dr. Lee?

FOR DISCUSSION: or does this mean that good ole Henry C. Lee, Ph. D. as the multi-tasker specialist in criminalistics hauled out his super duper extra fancy 'scope and is going to say that the hair(s) recovered "resemble" those of Caylee but aging and dating are impossible and that "deathbanding" is impossible to confirm since there is/was only one hair. Wonder if he'll pull out ONE of his headhairs to prove it?

JUST IMAGINE THIS HYPOTHESIS: MAYBE the defense gang truly believe that using the "name brand", multi- paged CV & honorary "doctorated" HCL (no, I don't mean hydrochloric acid but after the Spector & Michael Petersen cases, I "feel" he's equal to it) and his "fractured Ch-English" on the stand, will befuddle, dazzle, confuse, kerflunkle, confound, obnubilate, discombobulate, jumble or otherwise blur the facts for the jury

I believe I remember at one of the hearings Judge Perry asked wasnt Henry Lee an expert on hair and JB told him no then Judge Perry said okay but remember that might come back at you in the future which means he cannot use Lee to state any comments on hair, did I remember that correctly.

T/Y for your memory jolt! :twocents: Having gone toe to toe with Henry, THAT detail won't stop him from sharing/sneaking in (or at least trying to) SOME measure of "detail" regarding the now "unexperted hair analysis".:twocents:
He's very big on tossing in off the cuff comments regarding discussions HE lead with the scientific TEAM and circumventing the application of due credit of research/scientific study. Just check out "authored" articles from his resume! :snooty:

Mr. Petraco was the hair expert who will NOT be on the witness list.

Casey Anthony case: Dream Team of experts heads to Orlando to inspect evidence
July 12, 2010|By Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel
Casey Anthony's criminal defense team announced a veritable "dream team" of forensic and science experts headed to town this week to inspect evidence compiled by authorities in the murder case.
First up is Dr. Henry Lee, the well-known criminologist and pathologist often associated with the O.J. Simpson case, according to Casey Anthony attorney Jose Baez.
Also headed to town this week, he said, is Nicholas Petraco, an associate professor of chemistry and forensic science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.
Likewise, Dr. Tim Huntington, an assistant professor at Concordia University, Nebraska, and a board-certified entomologist, will be here for the inspections, Baez said. Forensic entomology applies the study of insects to a legal context to help establish times of death and post-mortem movement of bodies, Huntington has said, according to the Concordia University website.

It looks like the defense has no counter to the claim that the hair found in Casey's car trunk belonged to Caylee and had a death band on it. They're not refuting this claim.

I would therefore assume that the defense acknowledges that a deceased Caylee was in the trunk of Casey's car. But, they will likely claim that someone else murdered Caylee and placed her in the trunk of Casey's car.

The car was impounded by the police on July 17, 2008, and at that time Caylee's remains were not in the vehicle. According to prosecution expert witnesses, Caylee's remains were placed at the site on Suburban sometime in June of 2008, at a time when the car was in Casey's possession and control.

It's going to be very difficult for the defense to claim that someone else murdered Caylee and placed her in the trunk of Casey's car, and later removed Caylee's body, at a time when the car was in Casey's possession and control.

ITA. How Casey can still have confidence in a defense team building nothing but smoke and mirrors and nothing real to defend her with is beyond me. They are going to go until the last minute, then try for a deal. I cannot see them going to in court with such a lack of a defense and getting any sort of win, not even with 50 penalty phase witnesses.

Your attorneys are only as good as the information you provide to them. 0 - 0 = 0 jmo

:waitasec: That has worked for the Anthony's for years. Why stop now.

How do you think HL's slapdown by the judge in the PS trial will play out at ICA's trial? I'm hoping for a challange to his credibility by the SA's. Can they do that when his area of expertise comes up?

Q12 – hair from debris taken from left side of trunk liner – exhibits characteristics of decomp – similar to hair from Q15 – caucasian, light/med brown, 9” – dark band at root

Q12.1 – hair from specimen Q12 debris from left side of trunk liner – DNA consistent with KC and Caylee – microscopically similar to hairs in Q59 (hair mass with remains) and consistent with originating from the same source
