A Clark County grandmother and her husband have been charged with murder in the October death of the woman's 10-month-old granddaughter.

Cheryl Kirkwood-Black, 51, and her husband, 42-year-old David Black, both of Winchester, were charged with murder after an autopsy revealed that Kirkwood Black's granddaughter, Addysen Mayes, died from "acute toxic effects of methadone."

..they obtained the drugs illegally.

Officials say the mother of the child, Brooks Ecton, 21, had been living with the Blacks at the time of the child's death, but had since moved out.

Ecton is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment for leaving the child with the Blacks, who, according to court documents, she knew were active drug users.

sounds like this is another little one that didn't have a chance

:rose: RIP with the angels, Addysen :rose:

I am so sick and tired of these baby killers!!! WTH parents killing their babies, boyfriends killing babies, step moms killing babies, and now we are seeing so many grandparents killing their grand babies. They all should be hung in the town square. We need to have laws like they have in Arabian countries, quick trial and dead by the end of the week.

RIP Addysen, what a beautiful angel!

OMG - read the comments, in the link from Texas_Mist (post 2) - if that offer is real - what a way to find a blessing in this tragedy.
*******

There was another story recently of a baby who drank dad's girlfriends methadone from a sippy cup. WTH is wrong with people who have a baby in the house and a gawd awful drug?

Baby's mom crying no fair :furious: :banghead: :furious: :banghead: :loser: - sorry, she should have done more. If Gma's a drug addict - you can't trust her, so take care of the baby yourself or find someone who isn't a drug addict. I have no sympathy - how exactly did a 10 month old get at the drugs, by herself?

RIP Sweet Addysen.

I bet you the "grandparents"....gave her that to make her sleep.

I bet you the "grandparents"....gave her that to make her sleep.

Hence the murder charge... :blushing: WTH is wrong with people? :banghead: :slap: Take them to town square (all of them) and let those who have lost a child or can't have children take their frustration out on them. They make me sick.

The mother of a 10-month-old who died last year after ingesting methadone while in the care of her grandparents pleaded guilty to first-degree wanton endangerment during a pretrial conference in Clark Circuit Court Thursday.

Brooks Acton, 21, was charged with wanton endangerment in October 2010 for leaving her daughter, Addysen Brooks Mayes, in the care of her mother, Cheryl Kirkwood-Black, and stepfather, David Black, while knowing they abused drugs, and for not seeking medical attention for her daughter after coming home and finding her acting strangely...

Circuit Judge Julia Adams agreed to accept Acton’s guilty plea to first-degree wanton endangerment, which carries a one-year prison sentence, but to divert the sentence for one year during which time Acton must remain under supervised probation.

From December 2011:

When the Blacks pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter charges in October, both said they didn’t know how Mayes found the drugs...

Logue sentenced both Kirkwood-Black and Black to the maximum of 10 years in prison. David Black, 42, made no statements, while his wife wept in the courtroom...

An autopsy determined the child ingested enough methadone to be fatal to an adult, police said.
