A man is dead after being shot with a crossbow inside a library in east-end Toronto that was full of moms and their children Thursday afternoon.

Emergency workers were called to the library branch on Main St. south of Gerrard around 4.30 p.m. and found the wounded man with an arrow in his back.

The victim, reportedly in his 40s, may have been pepper-sprayed before he was struck with the arrow.

Luckily they have already caught the killer.

Witnesses helped in arrest of crossbow slaying suspect, police say

An elderly man is being credited by witnesses with helping collar a suspect in an unusual homicide in Toronto's east end.

An elderly man followed him, as he walked to a nearby U-Haul van, got in and drove off down a laneway.

The man got his license plate number and passersby phoned police with the information.

TORONTO — Police say the Ottawa man accused in a fatal crossbow shooting in a Toronto library is the son of the man who was killed.

Sgt. Tony Vella confirmed that Zhou Fang, who is charged with first-degree murder, is the son of 52-year-old Si Cheng, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

I wonder what was going on that made the son want to kill his dad?

So it was the son killing his dad?????? Unbelievable!

Police have not said anything about what may have motivated the city’s 59th murder of the year.

However there is a history of violence involving the accused killer’s estranged mother and father.

And at least one source, who knew the couple when they were still living together as a family in 2006 on Mintwood Dr. near Steeles Ave. E. and Leslie in 2006, said “Nora” Cheng Mei Fang “lived in fear” of her former spouse.

“I don’t know what the relationship was like between the father and son, but I know she was terrified of her ex-husband,” said the source, who asked not to be named.

The mother and son have been living in Ottawa.

Sounds like there was a lot dysfunction in this family...now the mother has lost her son too.

And I feel bad for the folks in the library that had to witness this - what a nitemare.

Zhou “Peter” Fang must serve at least 10 years in prison for murdering his father Si “William” Cheng with a crossbow and a hammer in a crowded Toronto public library, a judge ruled Tuesday...

Fang, who pleaded guilty in July to second-degree murder, was neither criminally insane nor was he acting in self-defence when he committed the shocking crime, said McMahon.

The Ottawa killer and his mother, Nora, suffered what senior forensic psychiatrist Hy Bloom described as “one of the worst and most chronic child-and spousal-abuse scenarios he has ever encountered”...
