A Canadian man is to pay tribute to the victims of the September 11 by having 3,000 piercings on his body.

Brent Moffat says four tattoo artists will begin piercing his skin at 9:46am - the time the first hijacked plane hit the World Trade Centre - on the third anniversary of the terror attacks.

Mr Moffat, 35, from Winnipeg, said: "This is done as a memorial to the people who lost their lives in the Twin Towers that fateful day.

"This is in no way a financial or political statement, but a remembrance of the lost men and women due to a senseless act of violence."

Mr Moffat, who is known as "The Human Pin Cushion", has set two Guinness world records, reports the Washington Times.

His first was 700 needles in seven hours, performed in January 2003, which he broke that December with 900 needles in 4 1/2 hours.
