Details are sparse. I don't know if she went missing from her house, just didn't come home from somewhere or what. She was found dead on the side of the road not far from her home, just two hours after being reported missing. COD is blunt force trauma.

A 9-year-old girl was found dead in a remote area of Todd County early Saturday morning a few hours after she was reported missing.
Kentucky State Police identified the victim as Amy R. Dye. An autopsy was performed today at the state medical examiner's office in Louisville. KSP spokesman Stu Recke said the girl died of "multiple blunt force trauma."

I wonder if she was hit by a car? A hit and run? How sad, I am so sorry for her family and friends.
 
The family was grieving Saturday evening. And with no suspects, there had certainly been no arrests made in this case by Saturday night.

An autopsy indicated the little girl died from blunt force trauma; investigators say the test showed she suffered from multiple blows. This evidence leads investigators to call her death a homicide.

So, I'm making the assumption that "multiple blows" would rule out a hit and run?

The reason I ask is that a good friend of mine, who heads up Crime Victims United of Oregon lost his daughter a number of years ago in the same fashion. A local teen (from a well-respected family) simply wanted to "see what it felt like to kill". He purposely hit my friend's 12 year old daughter, with his truck, as she was walking home from school and she died instantly. The boy had written about these fantasies and bragged about the murder to friends. The child was killed directly in front of her grandmother's home.

Because the boy was still a teen, he only came under the jurisdiction of the state until he was 18 and then he walked free. That's when my friend got busy with lobbying and helped changed the law to allow violent offenders to be held until they are 25.

We also have a thread, posted sometime in the last month, where a similar crime occurred. A person committed a very violent act, a murder (I believe), and it was later learned that they had been responsible for a purposeful hit and run earlier in the evening. Thank God the woman who was hit, lived. My point is that this crime can be an escalation to other even more violent crimes.

My heart goes out to little Amy. Rest in peace, sweetie. Fly high.
 
I'm still trying to figure out when and where Amy went missing from. Did she not come home from school? Was she supposed to be in bed?

This is the story of the horrific murder and dismemberment of a retired teacher. She was killed by a neighbor's son who was visiting from a mental institution. I was struck by the fact that he intentionally hit a woman with his car prior to the murder. It almost seemed as if he was working up to the gruesome murder. Marshall ended up getting very little time--30 years for the murder and 5 years for the hit and run--proportionally more for the hit and run than for the murder as the judge did not want the murdered woman's family to hear all the details and felt that the case would not hold up on appeal if they didn't.

As I said, maybe nothing. But if it is, that could mean that someone is building up to another murder.

Investigators said her body was found just after midnight under brush about 100 yards from her home.

The husband and wife are not the child's biological parents. The child was related to the wife and legally adopted by the couple.

At about 3:30 a.m., Todd County deputies drove a man and a woman to Trenton City Hall for questioning. Police would not identify the man or the woman.

The victim's family told Channel 4 that the child was adopted by her aunt.
 
Hoping for more details concerning Amy. Don't know why details are so scarce unless the local media is taking off the weekend.
 
Based on the remoteness, I believe Amy was assaulted by a family member. Seen it before, there is too much physical trauma and nothing else (sexual assault evidence) that would indicate something else. There is always that chance, but I suspect the KSP has someone in custody right at this very minute. Since the media hasn't picked it up, could be another juvenile. My guess.

Nothing new being reported at all. LE is awfully quiet for such a horrible crime.

Kentucky State Police say they've arrested a teenager in the death of a 9-year-old western Kentucky girl.

Police said in a statement on Monday that they have charged a 17-year-old with murder and resisting arrest in the death of Amy R. Dye. The girl was reported missing Friday and was found dead before dawn Saturday in Todd County.

Preliminary autopsy results show she died of multiple blunt force trauma.

The teen was arrested Sunday afternoon and taken to the Warren County Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Bowling Green. Police spokesman Stu Recke (REK’-ee) declined to say whether the victim and the suspect knew each other.

Troopers are continuing to investigate.

She was reported missing @10:20PM FRI night and found a couple hours later.

Todd County LE notified Kentucky State police @ 12:21AM (SAT.)they had located her body.
