Opal was last seen at approximately 5:00am by a family member at her residence in the 100 block of Sir David Way in Las Vegas, NV. When the family member returned at 2:00pm Opal was gone.
Her vehicle was still at the residence, the television set and lights were on and nothing but her purse was missing.
Her son believes her disappearance could be tied to other elderly crimes here in the valley.
A man was caught using Opal's ATM card after claiming to have found her purse in a dumpster. Police believe say the man may have only stumbled across Parsons' purse and cell phone in a dumpster. Parson's identification was found about a week later at a casino not far from her house.

    Inside Metro's Missing Persons Detail

Still, a small percentage of cases remain unsolved. Metro designates a detective to strictly work cold cases in the Missing Persons Detail, which is unheard of in other jurisdictions.

“I have a case from 1986,” Det. Dan Holley says. “There are witnesses to still speak to.”

Holley is also working on the 2008 case of Opal Parsons.

“Her car’s in the driveway. Her keys are in the house. It’s just odd. Was it a stranger or somebody she knew? She’s out there somewhere.”

Finding a resolution is what drives the department, and becoming personally attached to some case is inevitable.

“You handle this case the way you would want someone to handle a loved one,” Det. Holley says. “When we do that, I don’t think we turn any stone unturned.”

This is the reason I have visited this site off & on for a few years. Opal was my Grandfather's sister. I only recall meeting Opal once and that was at my Grandfather's funeral in 1994. It's possible I met her when I was much younger but can't recall. She was a very sweet lady from the limited time I spent with her.

I often wonder what could have happened to her and hope one day there's some closure for the family. Thanks for having this post here.
