I'm glued to my computer waiting on any kind of news on how the trial is going. I think it's going to be a long day. Love to my Kimmi's!!!!

I'm starting this thread to follow the trial. I'll move all posts from 2/22/2011 here.

I'm going to quote them so the timing doesn't get messed up. Okay - that didn't work, way too much time, so I moved the posts and stepped all over lynejo's post so everyone would know what was happening :)

I'm waiting out jury selection from home...baking, listening to old country songs, and thinking of Mom while little feet run thru the kitchen.

I'll update when I hear anything. I'm assuming they're all in the courtroom (family, that is). When I called my brother, his phone went directly to vm.

Mr. Heathman said Mr. Hollister is innocent and is prepared to present a strong defense for his client. The defense counsel served about 30 subpoenas for witnesses to appear for the defense.
“The theory of Roger’s defense … is that he didn’t do it, and there is someone else who did,” Mr. Heathman said. “I can guarantee you that there is another side of the story that no one else has heard about … and there really is someone who should be sitting up at that (defense) table instead of Roger.” http://www.newspressnow.com/localnews/26946941/detail.html

(((((nurse comment: riiiiiiiight roho! maybe someone else needs to be sitting up there WITH YOU but I think you need to be sitting up there as well buddy!)))))

will keep searching for updates... I am sure there should be some after lunch.... (((note: I keep forgetting I am in a new time zone since I moved from Kansas to Michigan!)))

LOL @ You're not in Kansas anymore!
Sorry, I just had to.

Hope it made for some smiles :)

Dorothy, Wizard of OZ reference :)

Eyestowardheaven, hugs, HUGE hugs hun.
Can I place my order for baked goods now? :)

I will be at the entire trial except for jury selection. I figure there will be a lot of pacing the halls down there today, and I am almost positive I would not be able to control my mouth - so me and my mouth are staying home today! I am way out of patience.

I was having coffee with my DH this morning and watching the news. When the notice of the trial came on I was telling him what I had learned of the case on here. He said he use to haul alot of wood to Kimmis years ago and "That Kimmi guy is a real horses behind". made me giggle so I thought Id share.

I said id love to go to the trial and DH said ok you go there Ill go to the casino...pretty sure I cant afford to go to the whole thing but will try to go atleast for a few days.

Hugs and prayers Kimmi family!!!

Thank you! And "horses behind" doesn't begin to cover it. I should have said this earlier, but seating in the courtroom is very limited, so if you plan to attend, be sure to get there early, possibly 45 minutes ahead of time or so, to save a seat.

a lot of info at this link: http://sabethaherald.com/2011/02/22...lete-in-roger-hollister-capital-murder-trial/

a few worthy snips:

Kuckelman said it is likely that the case could include aiding and abetting, which could mean that another person might be held responsible for the part they played in the crime, even they were not the primary party. He went on to talk about contracts, citing the differences between formal contracts and oral contracts. Kuckelman said some contracts could be understood. “Contracts come in many forms.”

In all, 55 potential jurors were called forward and questioned by the prosecution and defense. This field was narrowed to 14 — 9 men and 5 women.
Opening arguments will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.

DAY ONE
Prosecution: Atchison County Attorney Jerry Kuckelman, Andy Bosh from Kansas Attorney General’s Office
Defense: James Heathman, Joe Herder and Richard Benson
Defendant Roger Hollister was dressed in a black suit, white collared shirt and grey vest, as well as black cowboy boots.
Many members of Patricia Kimmi’s family were seated on a bench facing the jury.

so the jury is 9 men and 5 women...

I hope none of the women are the alternates..... sigh.....

LOTS of info from this reporter who is tweeting... so much so that I cannot paraphrase...

but one thing....: defense is saying that hollster is trying to pin it on EK.. and that EK threatened him. Also the truck was EK's and hollister says EK loaned it to him

ReHo led LE to Pat's remains ;-(

Nine men and five women were selected. Once seated, they heard opening arguments in the case of murdered Atchison County woman Patricia Kimmi.

Kimmi disappeared from her rural Horton home November 2009. Prosecutors say her death was part of a contract killing.

Witnesses will begin testifying Wednesday morning.

The trial is expected to take two weeks. The jury will not be sequestered during that time.

What a day this must have been for Pat's family! I'm surprised that the jury was selected so quickly. I'm also surprised that people wouldn't have known about the case. Would the jury members all be from the local county? I wish I lived closer and could attend the trial too. From all of the "conversations" with Pat's family on here, it feels like I know them and would like to be there for support.
Seems like a tricky tactic to bring EK into RoHo's excuse for his pickup being involved. Is Heathman trying to throw the jury off of concentrating on RoHo?
I didn't realize that ReHo lead LE to Pat's remains. I must have missed that detail. I always thought like she knew more than she let on.
Will be anxious to hear from Rita later on. I can't begin to imagine how difficult it would be to testify. Many prayers being sent your way Kimmi kids!
