[font=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica][font=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica] A man who ran an international child *advertiser censored* business out of a Miami Beach hotel room knew he was HIV positive when he videotaped himself having sex with children in Cuba and Ecuador, federal prosecutors said in recent court papers.
In light of this, Assistant U.S. Attorney Barbara Martinez Wright is seeking a 100-year sentence for Angel Rafael Mariscal, 45, at his hearing on Friday.
Wright said in court papers that Mariscal, of Ecuador, exploited more than 120 children, most of them girls between the ages of 7 and 17. A sampling of the more than 300 tapes and CD-ROMs seized during the investigation show Mariscal having sex with at least 10 girls, some apparently younger than 12.
The court papers did not say whether any of the girls contracted HIV, and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami had no comment. Federal authorities have said they were able to identify some of the victims with help from government officials in Cuba and Ecuador.
