California family still on mission to find son after three years

A California man, diagnosed with paranoia-schizophrenia, went missing near the Arizona-New Mexico border on Interstate 10 more than three years ago.

[snip]

Shortly after his disappearance, the couple drove to Arizona from their San Pedro, Calif. home, when they heard David was spotted in Cochise County. They spent days in Arizona and New Mexico with Cochise County Sheriff’s Office’s Search and Rescue team, coordinated by Sgt. Dave Noland. They drove along Interstate 10 from Willcox to Lordsburg, N.M., stopping at rest stops, gas stations, police departments and hospitals trying to find their son, a man who not long ago became paranoid. She said he was supposed to be taking medication, but did not have it.

This month, Anica and her son Jonatan drove from California to her home in Florida, stopping at various towns and businesses along Interstate 10 in Arizona and New Mexico once again, including stops at the Arizona Range News and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office in Willcox on Labor Day.

Anica said she has received telephone calls with information over the years, but when they check on them, “It’s not him.”

Details of Disappearance

Ristovski was left his Los Angeles, California home on March 7, 2011. He was traveling on Interstate 10 near the Arizona and New Mexico state line when his white 1996 GMC Safari ran out of gas near milepost 384. He called his fiance on March 9 to ask for money, and this was the last time anyone heard from him.

Ristovski apparently left the vehicle on foot. Searchers tracked his footprints for sixteen miles east into New Mexico, then lost the trail at Steins Pass just outside of Lordsburg, near the railroad tracks at milepost 3 on Interstate 10, sixteen miles from his vehicle. His cellular phone, wallet and water bottle were found eight miles north of milepost 388.

Ristovski has a degree in business administration from California State University at Long Beach and worked as a floor technician at the time of his disappearance. He left an infant child behind in California. His parents said he'd left home on several occasions after he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, but he was never gone more than a couple of days.

Both California and New Mexico Police are investigating his disappearance. His case remains unsolved.
