ORLANDO, Fla. -- Judge Belvin Perry granted an additional 300 investigative hours for Casey Anthony's defense.

The request means an additional $12,000 in taxpayer funding for Anthony's defense.

A so-called Frye hearing got off to a slow start Wednesday morning with dozens of objections from prosecutor Jeff Ashton.

So far, the court has taken up the issue of a hair found in Anthony's trunk.

Lowe finished testifying just before noon. She again said there are no standards or "error rates" involved in this discipline.

Sims was not allowed to get an answer on whether the lack of an error rate could render the procedure faulty due to an individual observer's bias

Also this morning, Judge Belvin Perry has reminded the parties that the purpose of these hearings is to determine the general acceptance of this area of science/research in the scientific community.

This hearing could last two days and cover such topics as air samples, plant root growth, the stain in Anthony's trunk and the heart sticker.

Another topic that will be covered is the discovery of traces of chloroform, which can be lethal, in the trunk.

Anthony's defense has argued the chloroform findings are "absolutely 100% false and constitute a fraud on the American public and potential jury pool of Miss Anthony."

The defense filed a motion to exclude the chloroform evidence.

Check back for updates.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Frye hearing in the case against Casey Anthony got off to a slow start Wednesday morning with dozens of objections from prosecutor Jeff Ashton.

So far, the court has taken up the issue of a hair found in Casey Anthony's trunk. Prosecutors say it has signs of decomposition. Tests have shown the hair belongs to Casey or Caylee Anthony.

Lowe said yes, they've done experiments leaving hairs out in soil and water, and there has been both "putrid root" and signs of decomposition on the hair, but not post mortem banding, which is unique to hair from decomposing bodies.
Cindy Anthony is the only family member in courtroom.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- K-9 Units
Hearing Expected To Continue Thursday.
The FBI expert who studied a hair strand taken from the trunk of Casey Anthony’s car explained via teleconference that the hair had postmortem banding at the root, which is considered a sign it came from a decomposing body.

"The characteristics in this hair were consistent with PRMB, which I reported as consistent with decomposition,” FBI evidence expert Karen Lowe said.

At the beginning of the hearing, there was an audio issue with the witness on video. They were able to fix the audio so that the witness can be heard.

Local 6 News reporter Tony Pipitone described the man. In his 20s, dressed casually, was sitting in the third row of the gallery, blurting out a remark about the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

He interrupted the proceedings saying in a calm, clear voice, "the Lord has showed himself in Japan with destruction."

The man was immediately removed from the courtroom. He will not be permitted to return.

Casey Anthony hearing: Debate centers on hair evidence, cadaver dogs

Casey Anthony's defense team argued hair evidence should be excluded from murder trial and are raising questions about cadaver dogs used in the investigation.

A variety of other issues are slated to be debated during the hearing.

Gerardo Bloise, a crime-scene investigator with OCSO, says the K-9 smelled around Casey's car that day, but came to a stop and sat down at the rear of the car near the rear bumper after sniffing the trunk.

That dog and another also alerted to three spots in the back yard of the Anthony home.

A defense expert forensic anthropologist Dr. Scott Fairgrieve, has said during his deposition that dogs are not scientific instruments. While dogs serve as tools, he said, "There is error involved with the scenting ability of a dog."

He has no official education background in the training, deployment or reliability of these dogs.
He has seen 10 to 20 training sessions or actual cases involving these dogs.

Linda Drane Burdick is now challenging his qualifications to testify about cadaver dogs based on his limited experience with the dogs and reading research in this area rather than conducting his own research. He acknowledged that some of the source materials he has read came from online sources readily available to anyone.

FBI fiber examiner Karen Korsberg Lowe finds 'postmortem root banding."

ORLANDO -- Casey Anthony's white Pontiac Sunfire has been seized as possible evidence in her trial.
Lawyers on both sides of the case are arguing over what scientific evidence will be allowed at her trial, which is scheduled to start in just six weeks.

The question up for debate: Is the evidence really accepted science, or just an experiment?

FBI examiner Karen Corsberg Lowe testified about hair found in Casey's trunk that shows signs of decomposition, and high levels of chloroform were also allegedly found in the trunk.

But the science to prove there was a dead body is relatively new.

Chief Judge Belvin Perry will determine if the science is strong enough to use in court, or too new and experimental.

Pipitone said he expects prosecutor Jeff Ashton to attack Logan in any way possible, including noting that Logan resigned last year as the director of the Washington state crime lab after judges lost faith in its blood alcohol tests.
Evidence like what state experts want to present regarding human decomposition have never been allowed in court to help prove a murder case in the past, but prosecutors believe they have a chance.

Ashton has a history of getting groundbreaking scientific evidence into court. In 1987, he obtained the first conviction in the United States based on DNA.
Cadaver dogs were also discussed Wednesday.
Unlike the hair evidence, Perry will not decide whether dog handler testimony can be used in court -- it can -- but the defense wants this specific testimony excluded .
Perry said he will not rule from the bench when the hearing is over. He will issue a written order
