Fayetteville man found not guilty in 2011 gang death

The Cumberland County Superior Court jury deliberated less than an hour before announcing that Roderick Wilkerson, 28, is not guilty of first-degree murder in the March, 5, 2011, death of Fashaad Montez Lee, 19, of Fayetteville.

Wilkerson and Tyemirh “Ty” Young were charged with murder after Lee’s skull was found by soldiers in October 2014 in woods off Hilltop Road in Hoke County. Prosecutors said Lee was shot in the back.

The charges against Young were dropped the next year because of insufficient evidence. Young was a primary state witness in Wilkerson’s case and had been in the Gangster Disciples at the time of Lee’s death.
