Seriously, put me in a room alone with this "woman"...

I am so happy that this dog is alive, & that he was saved; however, my god, so close to death.

His pic is in this link, & he is so precious. His face just shows it all. This poor dog has seen true terror. :-(

And why, because she "couldn't take care of him anymore"!?!?!?!

Please New Jersey, make an example of this animal abuser!!!!

The New Jersey ASPCA says it has charged a Newark woman with four counts of animal cruelty in the case of a 1-year-old pit bull found starved and barely alive inside an apartment building garbage chute.

Kisha Curtis, 28, was charged Friday with two counts of abandonment and two counts of failure to provide proper sustenance to the animal, ASPCA spokesman Matthew Stanton told FoxNews.com.

The animal was found so brutalized that his bones protruded from his fur and he had no body temperature. Animal care workers with the Associated Humane Societies/Popcorn Park called it one of the worst cases of cruelty they've ever seen.

The dog was later named "Patrick" because he made it through the night and into St. Patrick's Day. Veterinarians said he would have died within 6 to 12 hours if he hadn't received medical care.

I'd also like to remind everyone here who reads that there is a Million Patricks out there of ALL breeds that need to be rescued and need new homes, but pitbulls are the most brutalized of every breed of dog. More likely to be cut, beat burned with acid, have their teeth removed be used at bait dogs etc..

Ok off my soapbox :)

Let me guess, Kisha will get a fine and be prevented from owning a pet for one year.

No, please stay on your soapbox!! :)

A friend of mine runs a Pit Bull Rescue, Ring Dog Rescue in Richmond VA, trust me, I know.

I have heard horror stories, & would love nothing more than to see this woman made an example of!!!!!!!!!

That poor little dog! I've never seen anything so awful.

If only there were a way of preventing abusers from having animals....I was going to suggest a database but that would only work with legitimate organizations and convicted abusers-- and abusers can always find an unwanted animal somewhere.

There is a grass roots movement for a cruelty registry similiar to the child abuse registry they have in each state.

I REALLY wish we could have an animal forum for animal abuse stuff.. how can we go about requesting one?

beautiful little guy

I hope he finds a loving home where he will never long for food and love again

that kisha needs to get state prison time, and let them make her pay every minute of every day for her stay in prison. she's a pathetic excuse of a human, she should be banned from ever having any children or pets or contact with any!

people like kisha are the reason why pitbulls get a bad rep, they mistreat, and the same as an abused child, they may bite someone in the future.

i have no idea how someone could be so evil to a helpless baby animal, it makes me sick!

thank god for the doctors who saved patrick, hopefully he can get the loving home he deserves!

I AM SO PROUD OF NEW JERSEY!!!! :)

According to the Star-Ledger, Curtis allegedly left the dog tied to a railing while she left New Jersey for more than a week. As far as Frank Rizzo, superintendent of the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is concerned, that’s not just cruelty to an animal, its torture.

That factor and the way that Patrick was found prompted his agency to ask that Curtis be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. "Somebody discarded him while he was still alive. That’s what makes it of much more concern," Rizzo said.
Initially, Curtis, 27, was charged with four counts of animal cruelty. The fourth-degree criminal charge was upgraded from previously filed animal cruelty charges. If convicted of the felony charge, she could face up to 18 months in jail and a $3,000 fine.

I love it that her charges have been upgraded, & I love it that Patrick has captured the nations heart! (per this article if you click on the link that does provide a warning of his condition upon being brought in initially, it shows an animal close to death)

It is so extremely disturbing that she thought absolutely nothing of doing this to him.

The person who allegedly starved Patrick is Kisha Curtis, 28, who lives in the 550-unit Garden Spires apartment building in Newark where Patrick was found.

The maintenance worker called Newark Associated Humane Societies (WARNING: graphic photos), who brought the lifeless dog to the Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, N.J., where he has been ever since.

"When he first came in, he really was looking like a corpse," said Pat Scavellino, GSVS's administrator. "There's no easy way to say it -- he was that poor."

Those pics just hurt my heart so deeply, I am glad he is getting the care he needs. Looks like such a sweety. I hope she rots!

Sweet Patrick has a lot of people pulling for him.

This vegan bakery raised money for Patrick.

These are the dog cookies my daughter made and donated to the bakery to help raise money for Patrick!!

One of our customers, Kristen, who volunteers at Chance At Life Cat Rescue in Hackensack donated Peanut Butter dog cookies to raise money for Patrick's rehabilitation. Cookies come in packs of four for $3. 100% of the proceeds from these dog cookies go to help Patrick. Thank you SO MUCH, Kristen!!! ♥

I have been unable to find a photo of his abuser. Anyone have a link?

I thought that the link from Tinusmd had a photo of her yesterday, not one of Patrick, but I could be mistaken.

I think that there should be a connection between animal abuse charges and DSS investigations fwiw. If she was so patently cruel to a creature with children living in the house, what kind of message did she send them?
