That's really out away from civilization, except that it's near the entrance to Mt. Ranier National Park. If the body is a murder victim, I don't think they must live close by -- unless there is a missing person from Morton I haven't heard about.
Thinking of Nancy Moyer, even though Tenino is an hour away, it would be only a 20 mile drive down I-5 and then a drive over towards the park, if someone were looking for a place to hide a body. I guess if it's a murder victim, it could be any number of persons from Washington or Oregon.
Of course, we don't know -- this could be the body of a hiker who met with misadventure or someone who died of natural causes. (But I doubt it.)

It's the time of year when the earth warms up and bodies become more visible. It is always good news when a missing person gets to come back, even in death.

News brief: Skeletal remains from near Morton are not Tenino woman or McCleary girl

Lewis County Sheriff Steve Mansfield said his office has not yet learned the identity of the skeletal remains found last week near Morton, but a forensic pathologist has ruled out two missing people.

Specialists have confirmed the remains are not those of Nancy Moyer from Tenino or Lindsey Baum of McCleary, Mansfield said today.

Any cofirmation of the identity of these remains?

Detectives with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office have been provided with an artist’s sketch in which they hope will help them identify the human remains found near Morton in April.

The remains were discovered off Highway 12 by a motorist who had pulled off the highway to take a break. As he got out of his car in the rural, wooded area, he noticed skeletal remains off the side of the road.

Drawing at link...I didn't know the remains had already had been ruled out as Nancy Moyer, it sure looks like her and fits her size.

She is listed as Caucasian, but looks almost Asian. I'm tempted to think it's Marizela, but her facial shape is too different. The timeline is right though.

Marizela Perez

What about Ruthie Kindness - last seen Feb 7, 2011 in Parkland, WA (50 +/- miles North of Morton). Listed as Native American, 63", 110 Lbs. I was looking at the shape of her face and nose in photo but wouldn't LE have already looked at her?

Ya never know. She looks much closer to the drawing than Marizela.

CarlK - do you know if this UID is in NamUs yet? I couldn't find her but that doesn't mean she isn't there.

I think the UID looks a lot like Ruthie Kindness. So much so, I'd submit. Great find LotsaLatte!

Okay, I submitted Ruthie Kindness via email to Lewis County Crimestoppers and to case manager listed on NamUs for Ruthie Kindness.
I'll update if I ever hear anything back. At least they may be able to rule her out if it's not her.

I was away for a bit, but to answer your question, no - the UID is not in NamUs.

Has anyone seen any estimates anywhere on a guess at the date of death? That would certainly help. The drawing with the full face looks native but if she was skeletal, how do they know that when they're calling her "Caucasian with some ethnicity"?

You can tell alot about ethnicity from the shape of a skull, and even the shapes of the teeth. Asians and Native Americans tend to have a scooped out surface at the posterior side of their upper front incisors.

So I am guessing that the girl had a caucasian type skull shape, and shovel-shaped incisors.

When I first saw the drawing I thought she looks like she has some Indian bloodlines; even though they said caucasian. They do list possbly mixed. I am glad you submitted the name Lotsa

Ruthie Kindness NOT a match

Here is the reply I got back (very quickly, I might add!):

A comparison has been made and it is not a match.
