Authorities are searching statewide for a missing 50-year-old woman whose vehicle was found in the parking lot of a Carroll nightclub the morning after she disappeared.

The Carroll Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said Friday they are asking anyone with information about the disappearance Dawn Allen to come forward.

"There are some unusual circumstances that make it a possibility that there is foul play," said Carroll Police Chief Jeff Cayler. "Basically, her history is such that she's always been very, very reliable."

Allen was last seen about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at her home in Carroll, and no one has reported talking to her since. She did not show up for work the next day, and her employer reported her missing to police.

Allen's vehicle was found Thursday morning in the parking lot of the Piranha Club on the east edge of town. The vehicle was not there when the business closed at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Caylor said.

Allen was last seen at her home on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at approximately 8:30 PM. Then on May 5th, her employer reported Allen missing to the Carroll Police Department. On the morning of Thursday, May 5, 2011 Allen’s vehicle was recovered in the parking lot of the Piranha Club, located on the east edge of Carroll, Iowa. No one has seen or heard from Allen since Wednesday night. At that time she was wearing bright blue knit pants and a multi-colored shirt. Allen is a 50 year old white female with short, blonde, spiked hair.

Carroll Police Chief Jeff Cayler asks citizens to call-in any information they may have related to Allen’s whereabouts, “We’d like to narrow our timeline. If anyone saw Ms. Allen or talked to her after 8:30 PM on Wednesday, we should know so we can further focus our search efforts.”

That is my hubbys neck of the woods if anyone has any questions :)

Hey Peeples...do you have any idea how far the Piranha Club is from Dawn's home?

I don't know where she lives at.

I will tell you that the club is right off hwy 30, which is the main hwy through that part of Iowa.. we always take it to get to and from my inlaws. Carroll is not big. The next biggest town is denison Iowa which is where my inlaws live.

She'd worked at the same place for 21 years and never missed a day of work without calling in- this was one of the top news stories in Des Moines last night and today, so there's got to be something other than no one knows where she is, for her to make it on the news here.

They've also called in the DCI, which hardly ever happens unless there's some reason (other than she's missing) to believe a crime was committed.

We've had wayyyy to many unusual violent crimes here in the last month! 2 murders of women with no suspects (1 with no apparent motive, she was shot while at a model townhome, and the other victim was found in her locked apartment with blunt force trauma and strangled) and now this.

Prayers to her and her family...

I googled Dawn's address and address of the club where her car was found.
It is 2.2 miles away.
(no link provided as did not want her address noted)

From the most recent news reports, she was last seen at 7:00pm 5/4/11, at her home. Some reports say 8:30pm....
She was talking to someone.
She made a cell phone call about 10:00pm that same night.

Her Subway employer called the police at 9:30am 5/5/11, when she did not show for work.
Police records show the cell phone last used at 3:30am 5/5/11. It was turned off
several hours later.
Her car was found in the restaurant parking lot, 5/5/11. It was not seen when employees left work around 10:30pm 5/4/11.

There does not seem to be any conflict in her life.
She has children, grandchildren. She has had the same job for 21 years.
The club/restaurant owner knows her well.

Iowa DCI now involved.

Cayler said he has also known Allen for more than 20 years.
"She's got kids (and) grandchildren. (They're) very concerned. We want, not only for Dawn's sake, that we can solve this quickly," Cayler said.

At first I thought the vehicle was just randomly abandoned at the Pirahna Club however now reading that the owner knows Dawn well, it seems more than coincidence. I am not implying in any way that he's involved, however, someone else who may be responsible for her disappearance may have had a reason for leaving it there. I do believe foul play is likely involved, maybe someone even luring her from her house. It would be very important to know if she was the one using her phone at 3:30am or at least what number was called or where an incoming call came from. MOO

I am very familiar with Carroll, Iowa. The Pirahna Club is not just a place to get good food. Attached to it is a night club/stripper club. It has been known to draw rowdy crowds at times.

I hope LE has told farmers to be on the look out for anything that could be out of the ordinary while they're working in their fields. It's planting season and it would be easy to plow something useful.

It won't be too long now and the fields will have knee high corn and it'll be next to impossible to see anything in the fields. Same thing for the ditches and culverts- they'll be overgrown in a few more weeks.

Still hoping for a happy outcome.

Carroll, Iowa -- New information on the search for 50-year-old Dawn Allen of Carroll reveals that authorities are looking to question 54-year-old James Snovelle of Rolfe as a witness in the woman’s disappearance. Officials say that Snovelle may be traveling in Iowa, Missouri, or Kansas in a red Mercury Sable with a license plate of 542MFO.

All I can find out about him is that he bowls.

His picture and hers at the link below. It says she made the call from her cell at 10:00 p.m. Her boss at Subway, called police about 9:30 a.m. Thursday to report her disappearance. Isn't that strange to be a few hours late for work and have your boss call police?

FaceBook group for Dawn started by her niece. There is a picture of Dawn and James together there with a comment that says they've been seeing each other for some time.

Gregg Taylor said his parents had separated and were in the middle of completing a divorce, but they’d remained friendly, even sharing Christmas Day together last year with the grandchildren.

Taylor had met Snovelle on several occasions. He termed their relationship as casually dating – meeting up once or twice a week to go to a movie or grab a drink.
