I just saw this. I hope that she's going to be okay! I'm glad that jury selection is over for the day because I'm going to put some of her music on.

Thank you for starting this thread, Daisy. I felt like I had been kicked in the gut when I heard this news today. Just stood there for a moment and let out one of those long, hard sighs, kwim.
Here are a couple of my favorites.

Praying for you, Etta.

I'm going to keep on checking for updates. She really is one of the best, a survivor too!

I hate to say this, but I found out that she was diagnosed with leukemia in january.

There really has been a resurgence of the blues and many of the artists give nods to the greats. That's cool but the nods are mostly to male blues artist. Very rarely to the women of blues. I think its a crime. Can you imagine music without her? I can't imagine the soundtrack of my life without her.

I've been talking to the angels all day and I'm going to be doing it some more!

Thank you for posting, I'd been checking back and not seeing anything. People really don't know what they're missing out on. Its feels good to see that other people appreciate her to!

Oh no!!! I love Etta, I've seen her many times-- I'll pray for her recovery. :(

Poor Etta. It seems like she could never get any peace. Now her son and husband are fighting over her Estate. Lord, please allow this talented woman to experience some peace.

The first time I heard Etta sing "I'd Rather Go Blind" live I felt like "Yeah this is it. This is heartache and deception and insecurity coming through a microphone on the wings of a hurt and decepted woman just for us". Man, anyone that could put that down on vinyl as well is a true great.

Prayers for Miss Etta now and always.

Prayers for Ms Etta James...what a beautiful gift she shared with us all.

Prayers for Etta James. She has always been a favorite of mine.

This has nothing to do with her illness, but I STILL think she should have been chosen to sing "At Last" at the Inaugural Ball for the Obama's first dance instead of Beyonce! What a slap in the face that was to Ms. James.

Etta James is not dead, her son said Thursday, contrary to a flurry of Twitter and Internet reports that stated that the great blues and R&B singer had passed away.

“She’s fine. I just saw her last night and she was fine," said son Donto James.

The 73-year-old singer remains seriously ill and is being cared for at her suburban Riverside home.
James has been diagnosed with dementia and is undergoing treatment for leukemia; she has been in and out of the hospital over the past two years.

Ahhh, I hope she's not suffering. Stay strong, Etta!

Prayers for Etta! I love her music and am going to put in one of her cds right now. It saddens me that her family is in a dispute during this difficult time in her life. Why can't people just get along?

Grew up hearing Etta. Prayers for her. Wonderful talent and she put so much music out for us to enjoy. Absolutely love her.

Oh, sounds like the "blood infection" was leukemia-- this hospital stay is probably her last stop. Bless you, Miss Etta, may you rest easy and go without any further pain.

Singing legend Etta James dies at 73
(CNN) -- Etta James, whose assertive, earthy voice lit up such hits as "The Wallflower" "Something's Got a Hold on Me" and the wedding favorite "At Last," has died, according to her longtime friend and manager, Lupe De Leon. She was 73 and had been diagnosed with leukemia in 2010.
---
The powerhouse singer, known as "Miss Peaches," lived an eventful life. She first hit the charts as a teenager, taking "The Wallflower (Roll With Me, Henry)" -- an "answer record" to Hank Ballard's "Work With Me, Annie" -- to No. 1 on the R&B charts in 1955. She joined Chess Records in 1960 and had a string of R&B and pop hits, many with lush string arrangements. After a mid-decade fade, she re-emerged in 1967 with a more hard-edged, soulful sound.

Throughout her career, James overcame a heroin addiction, opened for the Rolling Stones, won six Grammys and was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite her ups and downs -- including a number of health problems -- she maintained an optimistic attitude.
