APPLE VALLEY (CBS) — Police and fire officials are both investigating a fire in Apple Valley Friday that claimed the life of an 11-month-old boy.

Authorities say the boy was severely burned.

Neighbors are shocked and stunned by the little boy’s death.

While they try to form words to discuss the tragedy, investigators tell KCAL9’s Suraya Fadel that the fire is suspicious. They are tight-lipped she says, but sheriff’s deputies and homicide and arson detectives have been at the apartment all day.

Neighbors identified the deceased as Bradley Dingham and they called him “a little bundle of joy and full of life.”

He was airlifted to a hospital in Burbank where he died.

RIP Bradley...may you be free with all the other angels that have left us to soon!

unless it was spontaneous combustion (doubtful at best) there is no way this fire wasnt set. nearly all baby stuff including clothing and bedding is fire resistant.

hinky meter going all crazy...

This is just too weird, fire started right where baby slept! I'm sure there is alot more to come! JMO

What an adorable little baby. He just didn't deserve this!

Apple Valley mom speaks out about house fire that killed baby

More questions than answers, imo. The cause of the fire, which started in the baby's crib, remains unknown.

Looks like crocodile tears coming from the mom. i.e. no real tears or grief at all. IMO. It seems like she may be battling a lot of her own demons--at the very least.

The fire damage around the crib looks totally weird. Fire investigators are pretty good; I think they will get to the bottom of this.

A 30-year-old Iowa man accused of intentionally setting a fire that killed his 11-month-old son in 2011 pleaded not guilty to murder Tuesday...

Dingman was arrested May 1 by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Homicide Cold Case Team in LaPorte City, Iowa, and extradited Saturday to California, jail records show. Investigators here reopened the case in February 2014 after the probe into the May 20, 2011 blaze went cold.

Witnesses told reporters that the parents ran out of the room when the fire started, leaving Bradley behind. According to a Daily Press article from May 22, 2011, Paul Galaviz, a neighbor, heard the alarm and extinguished the fire. Bradley was found inside his crib suffering from burns to 70 percent of his body and smoke inhalation, authorities said.

He died the next day at St. Joseph Health, St. Mary's.
