UNSOLVED NY - Amagansett, Headless Male, 20-30, on Big Albert's Beach, May'11

From May 29, 2011:
East Hampton Town Police Chief Ed Ecker said Friday that three possibilities top his list of leads as to its identity, including Ward Wickens, a commercial fisherman who fell overboard on May 3 off the southern coast of Nova Scotia, as well as two individuals reported missing from Point Judith, Rhode Island.

Chief Ecker remains skeptical that a swift correlation of the body with any particular missing persons report will be possible.

East Hampton Town Police divers have found a human skull in waters off Big Alberts Landing beach in Amagansett, near where a headless body washed ashore on May 22, police said in a press release Friday afternoon.

Police said divers found the skull about 40 feet from shore, in about eight to 10 feet of water, “in close proximity” to where the body was found. They handed the skull over to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office, where the other remains were sent last month.
---
An autopsy completed by the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office shortly after the body was discovered revealed that there was no obvious trauma. Police said they believed that the body was in the water for a long time, likely through the winter, making it difficult to determine where it came from or in which direction it had traveled.
