Some of TV's top executives from the past four decades may have gotten more than they bargained for when they agreed to be interviewed for a politically charged book that was released Tuesday, because video of their controversial remarks will soon be hitting the Internet.

The book makes the case that TV industry executives, writers and producers use their clout to advance a liberal political agenda. The author bases his thesis on, among other things, 39 taped interviews that he'll roll out piecemeal during the next three weeks.

What? Artists tend to be liberal?

I'm glad somebody's finally getting the word out!

Of course no major TV character has had an abortion since Maude in the 1970s. ABC yanked Bill Maher off the air for merely telling the truth. CBS fired Dan Rather for more or less the same reason. Although gay characters are common nowadays, it's still rare for a gay character to have anything approaching a normal love life.

And even if writers and producers tend to be liberal, TV content is greatly controlled by the people at each network's Standards & Practices Department, who may not be.

Which may be why we've had GOP presidents during two-thirds of the years covered by the survey and the GOP retook the Congress for the first time since the 1930s.

So even if television artists tend to be liberal, they apparently aren't very effective at influencing elections.

And finally, TV producers tend to hire people like themselves? Try espousing Marxist ideals at your next job interview at a bank...
