NJ man sentenced on child pornography charge

"The former head of a faith-based military academy for children in New Jersey has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for sharing child pornography over the Internet. Twenty-nine-year-old Steven Baryla of Toms River must also register as a sex offender under the sentence imposed Thursday...."

"....In entering his guilty plea, Baryla admitted that in June 2009, he possessed images of child pornography and shared them over the Internet. He acknowledged then that some of the images of child pornography were of prepubescent minors and portrayals of sadistic conduct and violence toward children...."


"...The academy, shut down as a result of Baryla’s arrest in June 2009, was headquartered in the rear of a strip mall on Route 166. It advertised summer military training programs to girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 17. It also had operated a year-round, after-school program for local youth centering on academic tutoring, paintball activities, cadet choirs and community service...."
