Kerr County authorities today charged a Kerrville man with capital murder over the stabbing death of a disabled veteran at the victim's home south of Kerrville on Sunday night.

Tommy J. Cox, 36, was arrested after admitting during questioning Tuesday to killing Jerry Jenkins, 71, whose body was discovered at 1:30 p.m. Monday in his Spring Meadow Lane home, according to Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer.

He described the men as acquaintances, noting the suspect had family who live near Jenkins.

The slaying occurred during an argument over prescription drugs, Hierholzer said, and a knife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered at Jenkins' home.

“Evidently, Mr. Cox wanted some meds of Mr. Jenkins' and Mr. Jenkins didn't want to give them up,” Hierholzer said.

Cox has a lengthy rap sheet in Kerr County that dates to 1994, court records show, and includes arrests on charges of DWI, drug possession, burglary and criminal trespass.

He praised the help of the public for the speedy arrest in the case in which deputies were assisted by the Texas Rangers and the 198th District Attorney's office.

Cox was booked into the Kerr County Jail. His bond had not been set Tuesday
