NV - Four killed, 7 injured in IHOP shooting, Carson City, 6 Sept 2011

I have some good friends in Carson City. I pray they are safe!

13 wounded, 4 dead per the latest report. This reminds me of the fort hood shooting. Shooter killed himself.

This is why my husband hates going out to eat
RIP

He maybe be mentally ill, but I don't believe for one minute that he hasn't got a beef against the government....being a Mexican National, maybe he doesn't like the way he feels our country is treating his people!!!!!
I don't know what it is but if this is not a push for more people to arm themselves, then I don't know what is...just one concealed weapon could have shot this *advertiser censored**hole in the back and ending it before he could have killed or injuried so many!!!!!

Aside from the AK-47 rifle used in the attack, authorities say they found a pistol and another rifle in the minivan Sencion left in the parking lot.

Now where did all these weapon's come from, even if he is in my country legally (valid US Passport), my understanding he is cannot vote, by a legal weapon, among other rights American's fight and die for!
I could just scream, we have enough of our own problems in the country, we do not need anyone else's, mentally ill, criminals, thugs, drug addicts, murderer's, rapist, child molesters, uninsured drivers, bleeder's of our medical systems, welfare systems, schools, jobs (our young people would gladly take), diseases...........and the list goes on!
Before someone says racist, my husband is first generation from Mexico, my children are american/mexican....so save it!

Story is still developing but I heard he shot a guy on a bike/motorcycle before he entered IHOP. It seems he just wanted to take anybody out he saw.

Gunman Identified as Eduardo Sencion Gonzalez.

More weapons were found in a mini van that belonged to his relative. Ironically it had a sticker saying "support our troops". His family said he had mental health issues.

Some of the biggest drug dealers, have sticker that say support your local PD....that means nothing! I also do not like the paper this article was in, they are very bias, as would a white only paper or black only!:maddening:

If so, I wonder how many people were in IHOP(rememer it was 9 am it should have been pretty busy)...and what his choose's were?

“If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, it must be a duck” Prima Facie Evidence

Why can't this be a hate crime? What evidence of Mental illness can this family present? Is it so unpolitically correct to accuse a minority (if truth be told is probably the majority) of selective murder based on occupation or race, sex, age, religion!:banghead:

So you are saying that this man, who just arrived in town, knew these National Guard personnel were going to be at IHOP, loaded up his van with weapons, headed on down to the restaurant, opened fire on his way in at somebody on a bike, then killed a female civilian in addition to the two NG, shot others in the restaurant both NG and not, then shot up windows of other businesses nearby before taking out his own life? And that this was all done because he hated the military?

I wondered if maybe he had worked at the IHOP before or applied there and wasn't hired.

He sounds like he is really broken hearted about what his brother did.

LOL we do need a sarcasm thingy.

No I never said he hated military, I said government....police would have done the same for him. If you would read the article MarthaM linked it says witness felt he was targeting the National Guard! New in town???????How new, his brother lived there.....do the Guardsmen meet there every week! As for the non-military, woman and biker here you go!

Timothy McVeigh, called the children he killed casualties of war! My husband a retired deputy, was shot in the head by a militia leader (an advisor to McVeigh), this was NOT because my husband is American/Mexican but because he represented the Government....and all that pissed the shooter off!

I am not saying that this shooter is Militia, I am saying he was targeting American government! And any would have done! Do not get caught up in Mental Illness here, this is angry with the USA! Look at our states that are fighting to uphold the federal law, when it comes to Mexico!

This is just MHO! I hope I am wrong, but I don't think so! :banghead:

Come on La Raza, for once denounce what this Mexican National has done......As for the family, the brother wants money to speak to the Media...once again someone from a foreign country commits a crime, and the family of the will probably sue...for all the stress the American people put on him, causing his mental illness and untimely death! MOO

Thanks. An earlier similar case indicates you may be right.

Huberty, a survivalist, saw signs of growing trouble in America, believing that government meddling and regulation was the cause of business failures and unemployment, including his own. He believed that international bankers were purposefully manipulating the Federal Reserve System and bankrupting the nation. Convinced that Soviet aggression was everywhere, he believed that the breakdown of society was near, perhaps through economic collapse or nuclear war. He committed himself to prepare to survive this coming collapse and while in Canton, provisioned his house with thousands of dollars of non-perishable food and six guns which he intended to use to defend his home during the coming chaos. When he moved from Ohio, he left the food behind but brought the guns with him.[3]
Domestic violence was frequent in the Huberty household, with Etna once filing a report with the Canton Department of Children and Family Services that her husband had "messed up" her jaw. To pacify him and his bouts of violence, she would produce tarot cards and pretend to read his future, thus producing a temporary calming effect.
...
[edit]Prior to the shooting

On the day before the massacre, Huberty had called a mental health center. The receptionist misspelled his name on intake as "Shouberty". Since he had not claimed there was an immediate emergency, his call was not returned. He and his family went to the San Diego Zoo on the morning of July 18, and had eaten at a McDonald's in the Clairemont neighborhood in northern San Diego a few hours prior to the massacre.
Before Huberty left for McDonald's, his wife Etna asked him where he was going. Huberty responded that he was "hunting humans".[4] Earlier that day he had commented to her, "Society had its chance."[5] When questioned by police, she gave no explanation as to why she failed to report this bizarre behavior. A witness who spotted him as he left his apartment and proceeded down San Ysidro Boulevard with two firearms phoned the police, but the dispatcher gave the reporting officers the wrong address.
[edit]Massacre

Monument to Victims of Massacre - San Diego, CA
Huberty used a 9 mm Uzi semi-automatic (the primary weapon fired in the massacre), a Winchester pump-action 12-gauge shotgun, and a 9 mm Browning HP in the restaurant, killing 21 people and wounding 19 others. His victims were predominantly Mexican and Mexican-American and ranged in age from 8 months to 74 years. The massacre began at 3:40 p.m. and lasted for 77 minutes. He had spent 257 rounds of ammunition before he was fatally shot by a SWAT team sniper, Chuck Foster, perched on the roof of the post office adjacent to the restaurant.[6][7]
Although Huberty stated during the massacre that he had killed thousands in Vietnam, he had never actually served in any military branch. Eyewitnesses stated that he had previously been seen at the Big Bear supermarket and later at the U.S. Post Office. It was surmised that he found the McDonald's a better target.

My theory is that the killer will be found to have similar anger over his lack of employment and that he indeed was blaming the government. I think it will be found he had a similar paranoid outlook on the Establishment as this earlier case. His rampage was not targeted specifically at the NG, but seeing the uniforms was an identification with the government and so were his favorite target.

Here's a link to the 911 calls involved. I was very surprised at how calm some of these callers were. Able to give all sorts of info, even while being shot at: http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/129414438.html

I have worried for years about being shot like a duck in a pond while at a restaurant even though it seems that more mass shootings appear to happen at schools or places of work: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/apr/17/usa.internationaleducationnews

What scares me is how hard it is to defend yourself against such an unexpected attack. You're sitting there eating, or at work, working. Who would expect such a thing? It's why I like to sit facing the door whether at work or at a restaurant.

And I don't think this really has to do with the government or ethnicity, etc., usually. Many of these spree shooters are disgruntled, underachieving creeps who believe they should be more important than they are or who cannot handle the crises of life that everyone else has to handle.

Most of these shooters in our history in the US have been white guys. In fact, the callers to 911 in this case, assumed he was white. I don't think there are any measures we can take, whether those be arming every American, getting rid of guns altogether, sealing our borders, having tougher laws, etc., that could prevent such a shooting. Perhaps the only thing we can do is to notice when someone seems "off" or makes bizarre statements and to make it a bit easier to mandate psych evals of certain people and/or to mandate better and longer treatment of people like this guy. Trying to get "loners" involved in life and out of their isolation is important as well.

At the school where my brother teaches, the nuns (Catholic school) don't allow a kid to eat by him or herself or to be left out at play time. They will walk up to a bunch of kids and say, "Why is Becky by herself? Why aren't you playing with her? Go ask her to join you. You don't let any friends be left out!"

Maybe that philosophy needs to carry out into adulthood with a push by families, neighbors, fellow students, school counselors, professors, etc., to note loner or odd behavior and to not give up until that person is either assessed and/or made part of the group a bit more. If someone is doing nothing but sitting alone at their computer, it's hard for anyone to notice if they are becoming dangerous to themselves or others. I don't know. Just thinking out loud, I guess.

Here's a list of some of the nation's mass shootings, the apparent targets and the motivation:

1.
McDonald's, 1984 - white guy, anti-government, survivalist, appeared to target Hispanics during the shooting: [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Ysidro_McDonald%27s_massacre"]San Ysidro McDonald's massacre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:James_Oliver_Huberty.jpg" class="image"><img alt="James Oliver Huberty.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/5b/James_Oliver_Huberty.jpg/200px-James_Oliver_Huberty.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/5/5b/James_Oliver_Huberty.jpg/200px-James_Oliver_Huberty.jpg[/ame]

2. GMAC, 1990 - black guy, upset because his Pontiac had been repossessed. Known to have a temper but kept to himself. [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMAC_massacre"]GMAC massacre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

3. Luby's, 1991 - white guy, disgruntled, loner, angry with women and his town: http://www.chron.com/life/article/Shooting-rampage-at-Killeen-Luby-s-left-24-dead-2037092.php

4. Famous Univ. of Texas massacre, 1966 - white guy, failing student, previously court martialed marine, brain tumor, into firearms: [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Whitman"]Charles Whitman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Whitman1963.jpg" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/16/Whitman1963.jpg/220px-Whitman1963.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/1/16/Whitman1963.jpg/220px-Whitman1963.jpg[/ame]

5. Post Office, 1986 - white guy, disgruntled loner into firearms, angry with his boss: http://digital.library.okstate.edu/encyclopedia/entries/E/ED003.html.

6. Law Office, 1983, white guy (Italian American), disgruntled, financial problems, angry with former lawyer. http://www.nytimes.com/1993/07/03/us/the-broker-who-killed-8-gunman-s-motives-a-puzzle.html

7. ESL Labs, 1988 - white guy, stalker, angry at/obsessed with stalking victim. Of course, we all know of the famous school shootings in Colorado, (white guys, loners), Virginia teach, (Asian guy, loner), the mass shooting at Fort Hood (Arab guy, angry at America, the war, disciplined at work) and the massacre in Arizona (crazy white guy).

It seems that the majority of mass shootings not involving gang activity, or other crimes, involve loner white guys, or otherwise nutty loners. I don't think we can characterize it as a "hate crime" in the typical sense of the law, or due to an anti-American mentality, usually.

I think these are often just slightly crazy or really crazy guys who never amount to what they think they should, who expect much more than they have and who lash out like babies when faced with life's hardships, instead of persevering like the rest of us do, no matter what, despite the odds.
