DELTA, Utah—
West Valley City police detectives were in Utah's west desert Tuesday in the search for Susan Cox Powell.

The search is focused on an area at the base of Topaz Mountain, about 30-40 miles northwest of Delta. Approximately 12 WVCPD detectives and six cadaver dogs from various law enforcement agencies throughout the state are involved in the search

They are on to something. Someone is giving them info or maybe something they found on a computer? I just hope they find her.

Is this area north or south of where the Powell's house was located? And east or west? Thank you.

South eastish? which matches what jp said way back when he said he went camping south. I apologize for the sloppy typing.

eta: i see Dom answered correctly.

I've never actually been to Topaz Mountain, so I couldn't tell you what the roads might be like there. But I've been around there a lot. It's a relatively short drive from where the Powells lived - a few hours-ish. And it's pretty barren. It's the kind of place that would be bitter cold in December - especially with wind. And I would think that snowdrifts would be a bigger problem than just deep, standing snow.
