Cycle Oregon bus-load joins search for missing volunteer

A busload of Cycle Oregon volunteers was to leave Portland Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. to aid search efforts for missing volunteer Mark Bosworth.

Based on the latest information, which included that the man was wearing a headlamp, the family said investigators were focusing their Monday search efforts along Yokum Road, which runs from Riddle and Canyonville.

Another family member said he was possibly seen Saturday afternoon near the Riverside Lodge in Canyonville. A third said he may be in a state of delirium and trying to make his way back to Portland.

Soon after the fog melted into the cloudless sky in Northeast Portland this morning, a white bus packed with friends and colleagues of Mark Bosworth headed towards Riddle in southern Oregon to look for the missing Cycle Oregon volunteer.

Hutson said Sheriff John Hanlin will be in Riddle this afternoon, where searchers are expected to look for Bosworth on Yocum Road, a three-mile stretch of two-lane blacktop that runs east and west from Interstate 5 exit 101 along the south fork of the Umpqua River.
...and...
Sheriff's officials met with Bosworth's family this morning for several hours, and they too are expected to join the search this afternoon.

A search and rescue team, including three K-9 units and three four-by-four vehicles and firefighters, is combing a four-mile radius in Riddle, said Deputy Sheriff Brian Melvin. The team passed out 400 flyers and went door-to-door to Riddle residents, asking for help in the search. A marine patrol also floated Cow Creek, and search efforts were to continue Sunday until dark, Melvin said.

I really thought they would find him by now. If he is confused and wandering it seems as though there would be some more recent sitings. I hope today is the day.

The area is alongside Cow Creek and then Umpqua River, then to I-5 at exit 101.

If he is having headaches and disoriented, he could be most anywhere.
I sure hope that the search today finds him.

Cow Creek, a lazy wide stream that joins the South fork of the Umpqua River east of town, is just a few yards south of the Riddle High School football field where 2,000-plus Cycle Oregon riders and volunteers camped Friday night.

Although a lot of the brush and brambles on the creek's north side were cut in anticipation of the riders' arrival, it is still thick on the opposite shore and in each direction from the high school.

As he drove along the stream, Mitchell said he and some other volunteers have searched along several miles of the creek. His routine Monday was the same as the previous two days: Drive the quad awhile, stop and turn off the engine, walk some, listen, repeat. The first day he went with two search dogs. Monday, it was pretty much him alone.

Glen Bolen was the last person to see Bosworth. Bolen, who has been friends with Bosworth since 1993, told me this morning that he and Bosworth were chatting near their tents just before 11:00 pm Friday night when the two parted ways. "It's just really strange."
.................and.................
Bolen said he first became concerned about Bosworth Friday afternoon when he and Bosworth were enjoying a beer and pizza at the Cycle Oregon beer garden. Bolen says after ordering, Bosworth got up to use the restroom and never came back. "I didn't see him again until 9:30 or so. I told him I was worried about him, but he said he just got sidetracked talking with someone," recalled Bolen.

Lots of details in this news article.

Search for Cycle Oregon volunteer Mark Bosworth continues in Riddle, expands to Portland

Meanwhile, back in Portland, a team of 20 to 30 members of the White Bird dance group were putting up the most recent missing-person flyer about Mark Bosworth, which mention a $10,000 reward for information leading to Bosworth.

"We're moving the search to Portland on the theory that he must be trying to find his way back home," Julie Bosworth, Mark Bosworth's wife, said.
