'L-Word' star kisses girl, gets escorted off plane
APBy TRACIE CONE - Associated Press | AP – 13 hours ago

A lesbian actress who starred in "The L-Word" said she kissed a girl — and got escorted off of a Southwest Airlines flight on Monday for doing it.

Leisha Hailey took to Twitter to call for a boycott of the carrier after a flight attendant told them other passengers had complained after witnessing the affection.

Her first tweet said: "I have been discriminated against." She later added, "Since when is showing affection to someone you love illegal?"

Southwest Airlines Co. responded on its website that Hailey was approached "based solely on behavior and not gender." The airline's four-sentence response said passengers were characterizing the behavior as excessive....

The skies just aren't as friendly anymore.

And next we find, in the Daily Mail....

Was it all a stunt? Lesbian actress denies claims she was thrown off flight for kissing girlfriend just to publicise her tour
A frenzy stirred on Twitter and gay rights activists roiled after actress and singer Leisha Hailey was kicked off of a Southwest flight for kissing her girlfriend.

However, Ms Hailey's electro-pop band Uh Huh Her is preparing to launch a 21-day concert tour, she denies any seeming coincidence connecting the two.

In spite of massive media coverage of the incident, Ms Hailey's publicist insists that it was 'absolutely not' a publicity stunt.

Surveillence cameras are everywhere. Planes have them too right?

She was taken off the flight for her rude, loud, vulgar, threatening language - not for the kiss which some passengers complained about.

She admits to being rude after the comment was made but the comment never should have been made in the first place. If a woman across the aisle had given her husband a smooch I doubt anything would have been said. JMO

Ugh. Leisha Hailey was in a no win situation. Had she just ignored the reprimand it would have left the bigot with the impression that they were acknowledging inappropriate behavior of some sort, which apparently is not what was going on if it was just an affectionate kiss. So she stands up for her relationship and is ultimately escorted off of the plane. What about the bigot? She gets away with offensive behavior and a display of bigotry? If it's a family friendly airline, should that type of behavior be awarded? What if she had stood up and complained about blacks, jews, people with piercings, white blue eyed people, or dwarfs? Would the employee have mindlessly issued warnings based on those characteristics? I think not. That said, I'm not a big fan of PDA. Affectionate kisses, hugs, pats don't trip my radar. Anything above that, yes, I do roll my eyes. But not because of the gender of those involved. It's the motive that is so ugly in the situation, not Leisha Hailey's response.
